Haggis Very well organised event, lucky with the weather.

Where do I start?

I was a late replacement member for this team after one of the originals pulled out. A well known Fetchie then took over but had to pull out as well!

Met up with Alan F and his cronies on Friday evening at the campsite. Bikes loaded onto the transport (saved them getting wet overnight) and then it was wonderful smells of campsite barbecues. Food consumed, a brief sojourn to the local hostelry ensued...

Saturday dawned bright, dry and relativly wind free. boarded the transport to Fort Augustus and seemed to have picked the oldest surving double-decker in the Highlands - honestly thought we were going to be asked to get off and push at some stages!!!

A bit brezier and more overcast at FA, quite chilly while waiting for the off.

Starting hooter went dead on 11:00 and the uphill slog commenced. Lost the other two about 2 miles into the race when I stopped to remove the wind jacket.

Adopted the tried and test method of walking those parts which were too steep for comfortable running, and a mad chase on the downhills! Spent a good few miles leap-frogging several people, them passing me on the updulates, me catching them on the downdulates and levels (level?).

Was nice to see Land-Rovers being used for their intended terrain instead of Sainbury's carparks, as they provided water stations on the hilly section.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first 13 - 14 miles on the hill, but the tarmac section from Melgarve Bothy to Garva Bridge seemed interminable, especially as I was wearing Mudrocs which didn't give any cushioning. That was a VERY long 3.5 miles.

Superbly organised transition point, bike and kit waiting for me as I arrived, drinks, banana, and snack bars to hand.

The bike section was 'interesting' - a bit more undulating than I expected, and I drove the road last week! Have to be honest, it was the first time I had actually ridden 26 miles on the bike!!!

A good ride and I managed to pass a few people on the way in.

Never having tried anything like this before I am quite happy with my time of 6:16:19

Knees were a bit sore last night, but it was the bum which was complaining - must a get a more ergonomic saddle! :(

No sore bits today though.

Highly recommend this event to anyone looking for a bit of variety to their running. Forfar Road Runners 6:16:19 65.62

Selfish Git!!! Sorry for all those who bet ..... The winds were not at all favorable (headwind the whole way) and I may of been a little tired from the Nice Ironman the week before. Forgive me for not updating my race prediction closer to the event. One day I will get a perfect tailwind ......

My favorite race of the year and my 6th consecutive appearance. Organisation second to none. Long may it continue.

Favorable south westerly winds, Krysiumns on my Trek Madone and some quality hill preparation will get me my prediction and a PB to boot. Greenock Glenpark Harriers 3:45:00 4:28:00 89.09
