Blister Well that was a huge shock; I was going to use this as a slow training run, so I started right at the back to make sure I didn't go off too fast. Maybe I went a bit far to the back since I was overtaking people constantly for the first 2 miles. First mile was 7:34 so a nice steady pace, but maybe a bit quick for long run, second mile about 7 min so quicker again then kept that speed for a few miles. I was running with Jo from my club as we were both using the race as a training run, we stayed together for about 7 miles until she was really struggling then I went on and stayed with 7 min miles. I got to 10 miles in 1:11 which was a minute quicker than Bristol 2 weeks ago! I realised then I was on for a PB so pushed on caught a few more people up, then at 12 miles the heavens opened up, until that point it had been mostly cast over and a nice temperature, the rain gave me a big boost. Saw Dochart at the start, but missed him at the end. The course is very flat and follows country roads virtually the whole way. Well organised and quite fun overtaking the walkers that start an hour before. Jo got a PB too, she did 1:35:47 and I took nearly 2 minutes off my PB set 2 weeks ago, and that was with a hard training session Friday! Finished 70th out of 335. baggieboy I have mixed feeling about this race. Trained hard for the past 3 months for a predicted time of 1hr 30.
Started of well and kept an even pace, Pb at ten mile point, felt good and started to push on until i reach mile 11 and received the most painful stich. i couldn't even run through the pain had to stop and then jogged to the finsh line. Thats the negtive from the race. The postive gain a new PB. Knocked off 8 mins from last year time and thirdly i now know tthat i'm able to reach that magic mark of 1hr 30min, therefore i will try again. Quantock Harriers 1:25:13 1:32:45 1:32:45 66.03
Dochart Race start, finish & HQ is at the BASC grounds, only a couple of miles from M5 J22 with parking & changing available. The route, which must surely be the flattest HM in the country, includes a few miles at the start and finish on quite busy roads. the best of the route runs on much quieter and more pleasant country and village lanes around Brent Knoll. There are 3 water stations, mile markers and marshalls at each turning. At HQ I saw Blister starting his warm up and he gave me some old soap :-) about how he was roped into this one and how he'd be treating it as a training run (to be fair, I was intending to go round in 8.30 per mile - only goes to show how easy it is to get carried away on the day!). After lighning and torrential rain overnight and steady rain for most of the morning, we all lined up at the start under a gloomy but dry sky with a blustery wind. As the race progressed I felt stronger and stronger and progressivley upped the pace to finish a minute inside my PB. 115/335
