breezey The course has been changed yet a gain for the third year running, but still it seems to be very hilly with too many corners.charlotte street(or road)was particularly tough.the road looked like it had been newly tarmaced which also didn't help. There also seemed to be some problem with people queuing up to go past the finish line just after the 2 hour mark. Won't use the chip time due to the queue to cross the finish, but my trusty garmin never let me down.
Overall route was great but the last 2 miles of hills was a bit of stinker, Bham Council just needs to get proper race organisers in if they plan to make it bigger. Unaffiliated 2:19:01 2:19:01 2:25:00 2:19:01 49.76

Dowse Disaster! Segrave took the lead after 10 miles and stole the distance. Apart from that the race was c0.1 miles too long, 18 seconds into the race everyone had to stop as the course bottle necked, anyone finishing around 2 hours had to queue to cross the finish line, the pen system at the start was very poorly managed and the goody bag (contents was pretty good, nice medal and t-shirt) handing out process took forever. The course was generally flat or downhill for the first 10 miles then 2 miles of uphill before the fast broad street finish. Water stations and lucozade available at the right times. Atmosphere died at times on the course. In summary, better course than previous years, but poor organisation. I expected to cross the start and start running not be caught up in a huge traffic jam, then during the first 5 miles I spent more time weaving due to the narrow streets. tiamo69 Used this as a 'long training run' to establish/confirm fitness levels.
As hadn't put in the right training (longest run since June has been 5 miles & frequency has been 'up & down') plan was to run at 10 minute pace until the big uphill at 'Ladywood Middleway' (between 10 & 11 miles) and then walk until route levelled out.
Successfully did this but suffered left calf muscle twinges after 10 miles (put down to lack of mileage!).
Started run/jog again after 11 mile marker & ok until end of 'Hagley Road' (around 12.5 miles & within yards of the Five Ways Underpass!) when i had a severe twinge in my calf & had to stretch against a lamp post for several minutes.
Limped/Ran down Broad street & joined the queue of people waiting to cross the 'actual' finish line at 2:18.
