RFJ Race report from Balancing Blues 5k (1 of 3)
(could post last night due to computer crash)

Good little warm up, the plan for the series to get a new PB and get under 20 mins every race.

The course was quite dark with a few twists and turns, over a two lap course.

Got a good fast start, round to the first corner, change from track to grass, oh sorry that should read eat grass..... 400 meters into the race and im rolling in the mud try to aviod being trampled, get out the way get up and start running again.

Eventually get to 1k in 4:03, im fine now just a little hacked off, but at least im overtaking people again and find a reasonable pace, 2k comes up in 3:57, on to the 3k and the second lap, take it easy round the corner this time and stay on my feet, this slows me down a bit to a 4:00 min K. The 4th K I try and put the gas down and this is successful as I motor round in 3:47, need the same again for the last K, but Im tiring, the last 100m and there are two very tight turns into the finish 5th K in 3:55.

P****d off is not the word, 5 secs outside my PB with a fall.

Finish in 19:41, second best time ever and only 3rd time under 20. So I can take some consolation from that. Hopefully in two weeks time will get revenge on the course...........

sanddancer Nearly pulled out a couple of hours beforehand... felt pretty grim. I was originally hoping to get close to 28 minutes but considering my fragile condition, I was happy to get under 30 minutes... which nails my first goal on here! Ludicrously high average heart rate: 180 !!! Scary - I'll put it down to the sniffles. A nicely marshalled, friendly race. Looking forwards to doing the next in the series three weeks hence :-) Vale of Aylesbury AC 27:30 27:30 29:39 45.27
The Shadow Happy New Year! Good bench mark to start from. Cold but nice loop - need to eat more carrots though to see in the dark when the Corporation turn the lights off again. Unaffiliated 23:11 23:11 24:41 55.15
