Blister Really disappointed with this time, I was hoping for at least 4:40, but really wanted to do something closer to 4:30. They mixed the under 20's with the senior men as there were only 5 of us. I was really nervous before the start because I knew that everyone was very quick and I was expecting to come last. It was pretty hot too, about 28 degrees by the time my race started.

So the gun went off and we were off very quickly, within 100m I was struggling to keep up and I was already drifting away from the pack. It's a horrible feeling when this happens and you know you are going to be last and probably by some distance, it's even worse when everyone else is still running together in a pack. The plan was to try and run 72 secs per lap which would bring me in at 4:30, but first 400m was in 69 and already I was breathing very hard and my shoulders were all tensed up. I tried to keep the pace up as much as possible but did a very slow second 400m in 80 secs which brought me through 800m in 2:29 but the next lap was in 79 secs even though I decided to give it everything and hold on for the last 300m which was in 57 secs. By the 3rd lap the guy who came in second from last had started to slow and I was drifting towards him, but I was way to far back to catch him (about 50 meters) and he finished in 4:34 in the end, slower than I should have ran.

So I finished last by a fair way, but that didn't bother me it was the time...way too slow, basically the same as my mile PB but I thought I should be capable of running a sub 5 mile at the moment. The winner did 3:57...bloody quick! The heat didn't help but it wasn't too much of a problem as I have been training in heat, I even wore spikes for the first time in a race. I think I could have gone 5 secs quicker if I could have paced it well.

Got my club coach to film me too: Link to YouTube.com. TeamBath AC, Somer AC, Walton AC 4:22 4:29 4:40 4:45 73.68
