Organiser's Description

Donkey Brae Races 2024

The Donkey Brae Races will once again be part of the annual Aberdour Festival, possibly the best small festival of Scotland’s Summer! This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Donkey Brae Run; our first event took place in the summer of 1984 with only six runners!!

As well as the races there will be the famous village market with refreshments, entertainment and much more; so why not bring your friends and family along and enjoy a great day out?

You can register here for the 7-mile and Junior 2-mile race.  There is also a c.1 km fun run open to all that you can enter on the day.

We will be using chipped bibs for the 7 mile and 2 mile races and results will be published online on the day.

Location
Silver Sands Park, Hawkcraig Road, Aberdour, Fife, KY3 0RQ

Facilities
Toilets. Bag drop. Refreshments will be available to purchase. Hydration stations will be available on the course.  First aid cover provided.

Parking
We encourage runners to travel by public transport where possible as parking is restricted. The car park at Aberdour train station is free, but busy! Aberdour has excellent train links. Please note, parking charges (set by Fife Council) will apply at Silver Sands Park itself.

Start/Finish
The 7-mile race starts at 1pm, closely followed by the 2-mile and finally the Fun Run.  All races start and finish at Silver Sands Park.

2 Mile & 7 Mile routes
The 7 mile scenic course is of mixed terrain over undulating coastal paths between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay.  The 2 mile race stays within Aberdour, but also includes a stretch through the woods. Both races finish with the short climb up the Donkey Brae and then runners enter the field to the buzz of the village market crowds.

Fun Run
This follows a shorter route around the Silver Sands Playing Fields.  It is ideal for families who want to engage in fun physical activity.  Buggies are welcome but it can be a bit bumpy.

Restrictions
The 7-mile race is open to runners over the age of 16 years on the day of the race. The 2-mile race is open to over 9-year-olds on the day of the race. The Fun Run is open to all, but under 9s must be supervised by a responsible adult.

No dogs allowed. We regret that the course is not suitable for wheelchairs users.

Registration

10am to 12 noon to collect your chipped race number.  You can also enter smaller family members for the Fun Run entry at this time. Please note, access and parking are difficult for late arrivals so please allow plenty of time. There are no refunds for anyone withdrawing from the race.

Fees
7 Mile £16 / 2 Mile £6

If you enter the race and can't run for whatever reason, we are unable to offer refunds or allow deferment to the following year. You can, however, arrange the transfer of your race entry to another runner using the transfer process on Entry Central. Please make transfers before the closing date (19th July 2024).

Prizes
Medals for all finishers. In both races there will be prizes for top male and female, and first local male and female. There will also be other age group prizes in the 7 mile run

Places are limited, so please book early and we look forward to seeing you in Aberdour at the end of July. Race entries are open until 23:59 on Friday 19th July or will close earlier if the race limit is reached.
