Event Description

Entries open on Monday 4th September 2023, 7pm.

Returning for 2024 after raising over £15,000 since 2022, the Thornhill 10K – Round the Frews starts at Thornhill Community Hall, just 20 minutes from Stirling.  The route follows the popular Round the Frews Loop and offers spectacular views in all directions as runners circle back to Thornhill.

The Thornhill 10K – Round The Frews has been created in honour of local dairy farmer, Steven Black, who passed away in 2020 after a short battle with Duodenal Cancer.

Duodenal Cancer is a very rare and difficult to detect, often until it is too late, therefore greater research is required into screening and treatment for this aggressive cancer.

Not long after Steven passed away, his close friend Neil MacLaren started a year long challenge, of running 10K every day, to fundraise for Beatson Cancer Charity. Neil completed this amazing challenge in April 2021 and raised over £10,000.

Steven and Neil’s families have teamed up with Tay Fitness Events to bring you the Thornhill 10K – Round the Frews from 2022. You will be taking on the same route that Neil pounded, through all weathers, to complete his 10K a day for a year challenge. £2 from every 10K entry fee will go to our 2024 charity along with fundraising on the day of the event.

We all want the memory of Steven to live on in the village and to continue the fight against cancer, in his honour.

The event was so well organised and all the volunteers were amazing. This was my first race ever and I’m so pleased I didn’t cancel. The atmosphere was amazing and I will definitely be doing another event for sure. Look forward to next year’s Thornhill event. Hopefully a lot was raised for such a good charity that have helped many many people over the years. Thank you x

A great community event, really good atmosphere. Course is pancake flat for the 1st 4 miles and then hilly for the last two. Nice to come down the hill to the finish. Perfect for meeting up afterwards if the weather allows…

What a brilliant event. My first 10k for many years and so glad I signed up for this one (along with many of my ‘Move It’ friends!). Fantastic route with gorgeous scenery and just great to have an event like this locally. Many thanks to all the volunteers who made the day so special, such fun and very safe. Hope you make this a permanent fixture in your events calendar!

Very well organised event including car parking, volunteer support to make race happen, v good course and finish line sprint. Any improvements? Consider recycling facilities and encourage people to reuse their cup tween topping up on water/active root.

Fantastically organised and brilliant 10k route which combined great scenery with a challenging 2nd half. Everything from the minute I signed up went smoothly and the welcome received from the car park marshals through to the on course stewards and even the policeman just before 4k was brilliant. Having a 2.5KM is a great idea and using the hall to sell soup, sandwiches and cakes hopefully made the charity a lot of money.

Great event, very well organised and everyone involved in the day were excellent. Really nice route with a couple of sneaky inclines towards the end. My first 10k in quite a long time so a great one to get me going again.

Enjoyed the best day that was superbly well organised. The most friendly and non competitive run ever…it wasn’t a race but the scope for those high achievers was there to on a super scenic course.

I really enjoyed this event, the first 10km I’d done in a while. Warm community atmosphere and very well organised. Beautiful scenic route and the water stations were perfectly located for me! Had delicious soup afterwards and enjoyed a stash of fabulous home baking too! Great day out for a very worthy cause.

My first time doing the Thornhill 10k(and only my second Tay Fitness event). What an amazing day. Everything was so well organised, from parking, through the reception hall, the start/ finish , the marshalling and water stations and, of course, the amazing emcee. Everyone involved in the running of the event was so friendly and helpful and the marshals were amazing and so encouraging. I love that they have name badges which meant thank you’s could be a bit more personal. The young people who were assisting at the water stations were fantastic and the post race refreshment station volunteers did well to cope with the stream of thirsty runners. Thank you all, I look forward to Killin and then doing the races again next year.
