Due to illness the 2022 Limestone Way is cancelled.

It is with my deepest regret that due to my ongoing illness as a result of being infected with Covid 5 weeks ago, I (the event organiser) am not well enough to proceed with organising this year’s Limestone Way on Sunday 2nd October and therefore the 2022 event is cancelled.

The decision has not been taken lightly and I have left it as long as possible, in the hopes of seeing signs of improvement. However, I am still struggling with extreme fatigue, shortness of breath and cognitive issues that are making simply coping with everyday life challenging. The prospect of our longest and most logistically challenging event of the year is more than several steps beyond me, as I hope you can understand.

I wholeheartedly apologise for not being healthy enough to put on the event as I am sure all entrants have all been training and looking forward to it for many months.

The default for all entrants will be to receive a full entry fee refund to their original payment method, however there are also the following two options:

1.      Receive a refund minus a £5 donation to help Dark & White Events cover the costs incurred by the unexpected cancellation.

2.      Transfer part of the entry across to the Wildest Peaks long route on 21/1/23 and receive a part refund for the remaining funds.

To choose either of the alternative cancellation options, please click:

EDIT MY ENTRY

  • Click EDIT next to the entry and then make your selection from the ‘Option’ drop-down list
  • You then need to click NEXT at the bottom of the page, tick the disclaimers again and SAVE ENTRY
  • If someone else made your entry then they will need to edit your entry to make this selection

The deadline for the alternative cancellation options is Friday 16th September.

To receive the full entry refund entrants don’t need to do anything.

Sorry again for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by the cancellation.

Kind regards

Oli Holmes

Sunday 2nd October 2022

The 6th running of the Limestone Way Ultra – a 42.9 mile/69 km point to point trail running event following the iconic Limestone Way all the way from White Peak to Dark Peak through the Peak District National Park.

The Limestone Way Half Ultra takes place on the same day but competitors will tackle just the northern 17 miles (27.5 km) section of the route.

Entries open on the 24/12/21

Event Summary

Limestone Way Ultra – starting from Ashbourne “the gateway to the Peak District” the 69 km / 42.9 mile ultra route heads north following the Limestone Way all the way to the finish line in Hope in the Dark Peak. This is a challenging yet rewarding run, whilst certainly not mountainous the continual undulations of the route means you will ascend an impressive 1590 m / 5217 ft of vertical elevation during your journey north.

Previous experience is essential for anyone tackling the ultra distance – when you enter you need to provide details of similar distance events that you have undertaken in the past 2 years.

Limestone Way Half Ultra – the most popular route option which tackles the northern 27.5 km/ 17 mile section of the ultra route starting in Monyash and finishing in Hope. Like the ultra it is a point point trail run so provides that real sense of embarking on a journey but the distance is a far more attainable goal for the majority of trail runners.

The Limestone Way is a permanently way marked walking trail that uses a combination of footpaths, bridleways and some interlinking country lanes to pass through the dramatic dales and beautiful Peakland villages of the White Peak. It is named after the white carboniferous limestone which is prevalent in the landscape in the southern part of the Peak Park and what gives name to the White Peak.

The whole route is signed with a combination of permanent Limestone Way signs and fingerposts plus we add our Dark & White arrows wherever the route is not obvious.

There will be three (one on the half) marshalled checkpoints/feed stations en-route which will provide drinks and nutritional snacks; all checkpoints will have a cut off times after which runners will not be allowed to continue and when convenient you will be transported to the finish.

For full details please CLICK HERE to visit the event information page.

At the finish venue a meal (including a vegetarian option) plus hot/cold drinks will be provided to all runners.

Sorry no walkers this event is for runners only.

**IMPORTANT** Both the Ultra and Half are linear routes and if you choose to not pay for the early morning transport to the start you will have to arrange your own transport to either; get to the start from the finish location or to get from the finish back to the start location after the event. The paid organised transport is only in the morning before the start – there is no organised transport back to the start after the finish.

"Great event, well marked must have taken some effort to mark out those 43 muddily miles, checkpoints really well supplied, and encouragement from all the volunteers, thank you volunteers for being so lovely. Thank you route for being so lovely, muddy and challenging in places It was a bit like running cross country in places, and only one small encounter with a cow. Great cake, nice strong tea and hot food at the end - what more do you want from an Ultra? Still digging the mud out of my toe nails " Facebook Full write up http://www.runallthemiles.co.uk/race-reports/limestone-way-ultra/
