The Good, the Bad & The Ugly 50th Anniversary Marathon

More years ago than I really care to remember my late father asked me what sort of films I liked and I mentioned Westerns for no particular reason I can remember now and he sat me down in front of Clint Eastwood trilogy of films, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and what turned out to be my all time favourite film, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. This transformed what little I knew of films at a stroke, I was probably too young, but it ruined "classic" Westerns (and most films/TV for that matter) at a stroke for me as being bland and unrealistic and I hugely enjoyed the genre known as Spaghetti Westerns, Gritty, nasty, violent and showing the ugly side of life, hero's that aren't heroic, villains that aren't evil and morals that are gray rather than black and white all wrapped up in Ennio Morricone music and Sergio Leone's ground breaking directing style.

By random chance I noticed that it was 50 years since this film was released, which is scary as it means it was the best part of 40 years since I first saw it! So we've created this marathon, really for the sole excuse of creating a brilliant medal! This will be a one off event, the medal will be dated and only made the once!

Fowlmead Country Park, near Deal in East Kent, has a two mile tarmac cycle track and we're going to hire this for the day to use this for The Good, the Bad & The Ugly Marathon. Key features of the event are going to be:-

1) Regulation mass start at 0900.

2) Dated, bespoke, custom The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Marathon medal.

3) Usual Saxons, Vikings & Normans goody bag and "picnic" aid station!

4) Classified as a road marathon, will be 12.96 laps of the track to make up the 26m385y distance.

5) 100 runner limit

There are slopes rather than hills, so its not totally flat, each loop has maybe 50 feet of elevation rise.

As usual we'll have a well stocked aid station which you'll pass every two miles, a unique custom made medal and a goody bag that actually contains goodies. There is also an on site cafe, a playground for kids and all in all is a nice place to host a run!

It's our aim that this event makes an impactful difference to the Fowlmead Country Park in a positive fashion and as such £5 from each entry fee will be donated directly to the Park to aid them in maintaining this lovely environment.
