Four iconic traverses

2023 Event Film

This lovely short film of both the SILVA Northern Traverse™ and SILVA Lakes Traverse™ from 2023 will give you a real flavour of this epic event.

SILVA Northern Traverse™

The SILVA Northern Traverse™ is a 300km ultra following Wainwright’s coast to coast route from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. The event has a strong adventurous ethos and culture of self-sufficiency.

Beginning at St Bees on the west coast, the route crosses the north of England through three National Parks finishing in Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast. Taking in iconic mountains, valleys, moors and ~6,500m of ascent, the SILVA Northern Traverse™ is one of the most spectacular journeys in the UK.

We want to make this the best ultra you have ever done! We can’t take credit for the route, this is down to Alfred Wainwright – but he got it right, which is why it is Britain’s most popular long distance path.

SILVA Lakes Traverse™

The SILVA Lakes Traverse™ is a 100km ultra following Wainwright’s coast to coast route through the Lake District fells. The event has an adventurous ethos and culture of self-sufficiency.

This ultra crosses the entire width of the Lake District National Park and starts alongside the SILVA Northern Traverse™ in St. Bees on the west coast. The route traverses Ennerdale, Borrowdale, over Grasmere Common, past Grisedale Tarn, through Patterdale, over Kidsty Pike and along Haweswater to finish at Shap. This is a challenging yet beautiful ultra, and a great stepping stone for those aspiring to enter the SILVA Northern Traverse™.

We want to make this the best ultra you have ever done! We can’t take credit for the route, this is down to Alfred Wainwright – but he got it right, which is why the coast to coast route is Britain’s most popular long distance path.

SILVA Dales Traverse™

The SILVA Dales Traverse™ is a 55km ultra following Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Kirby Stephen to Richmond. The event has an adventurous ethos and culture of self-sufficiency.

Following the same route as SILVA Northern Traverse™, the Dales Traverse™ starts from Kirkby Stephen, passes through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty, over the iconic Nine Standards, and into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park weaving through Swaledale to a stunning finish below Richmond Castle. This is an achievable and beautiful ultra and a great stepping stone for those aspiring to enter the SILVA Moors™ or Lakes Traverse™.

We want to make this the best ultra you have ever done! We can’t take credit for the route, this is down to Alfred Wainwright – but he got it right, which is why the coast to coast route is Britain’s most popular long distance path.

2024 is the first edition of SILVA Dales Traverse™ and the event piggybacks the logistics of its big brother, the SILVA Northern Traverse™. As such there are large distances between Support Points and participants at this first edition should very much see themselves as test pilots!

SILVA Moors Traverse™

The SILVA Moors Traverse™ is an 80km ultra following Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood’s Bay. The event has an adventurous ethos and culture of self-sufficiency.

Following the same route as SILVA Northern Traverse™, the Moors Traverse™ starts from Ingleby Cross, following the spectacular northern edge of the North York Moors National Park, before weaving through eastern Yorkshire to a stunning finish at Robin Hood’s Bay. This is an achievable and beautiful ultra and a great stepping stone for those aspiring to enter the more challenging SILVA Lakes Traverse™.

We want to make this the best ultra you have ever done! We can’t take credit for the route, this is down to Alfred Wainwright – but he got it right, which is why the coast to coast route is Britain’s most popular long distance path.

2024 is the first edition of SILVA Moors Traverse™ and the event piggybacks the logistics of its big brother, the SILVA Northern Traverse™. As such there are large distances between Support Points and participants at this first edition should very much see themselves as test pilots!
