Compare Runs - A Fetcheveryone GuideIf you have a route that you do regularly, Fetcheveryone makes it easy to compare your performances. We all have our favourite training routes, whether they are out-and-backs, local parkrun courses, or meandering loops. One of my regular outings is a 7.7 mile loop through a nice wooded area, with lots of peace and quiet and occasional views of the river.
Here's my favourite loop. Look at all that greenery!
Get to the point, Fetch...Every time you run, walk, or cycle, Fetcheveryone checks if this is a route you've done before. If there's a match, you'll see a button at the top of your training entry, telling you how this attempt compares to your other attempts. Click it to see all of them!
Click the black button to see all the occasions where you have completed this route.
The page you arrive at gives you a nice graph showing all your times over the years; and below that, a list of your best performances in time order. Note the 'Match' column in the table. This shows you how closely all these routes followed the path of the original - so there may be a few you want to ignore.
Here's my list of attempts at this route. On the right (or down below on mobile), it shows annual bests, and the number of attempts made each year.
And now the best bitOn each row of your list of performances, you'll see a little scales icon (). Click a few of these icons, and you'll see them appear in a box just above your list. Then look for the 'View Comparison' button, which will take you to the following page:
Here's the screen that allows you to compare multiple attempts at the same route.
You should see each training run overlaid on the map in a different colour, with a coloured dot hovering at the start point. Drag the time slider (in the black bar under the map) to the right to move forward in time, and the dots will move along the route. The black boxes in each column show you the distance covered by each dot; the average pace; and where available, the average HR and cadence. And below the black boxes, you can see the splits for each run, lighting up as each one is reached. It's a great tool for analysing your performance, particularly if speed and consistency are your goals. If one dot rushes off early, only to be caught up later, there's a good chance you went off too quickly on that attempt. Overlaying routes on top of each other can highlight those occasions where your GPS goes a bit wrong. And if you're old enough to remember Benny Hill, I dare you not to hum the theme tune as you make your dots chase each other around. And finally...Here's an added bonus. If you've run a popular route, then a second button appears on your training log entry. It works particularly well for race and parkrun routes. It shows you how many Fetchies have run the route, and your position in the hierarchy of fastest times. Click it to see everyone's best performances, and to work out who to chase (and who is chasing you)! Give it a go...To give this feature a try, head to your training log and find a suitable training entry. I hope it helps you!
