larkim - I've had a Fast club place in GNR. Not sure of criteria for males but as a female I got a place a few years back when the qualifying time for females was sub 1:35 (I'd run 1:32). However, the criteria for ladies is now sub 1:30 (or it was a couple of years ago when I last enquired).

Lee78 - you might find accommodation pops up or is a tad cheaper next week when people who provisionally booked cancel if they didn't get ballott place. I;m from the NE so have never had to have accommodation but having goodled accommodationn around my family (which is a way out) even that showed as fully booked yesterday.

I have a place. Accommodation is eye watering. Considering the coach option from edinburgh return trip leaves at 3.30 which am worried might be tight likely to be 2hr 45! If knew where could park on outskirts and get to easily with public transport might consider that.

I'd probably opt for parking at the finish and taking the transfer shuttle to start (assuming that is still a bookable option?). Or, as you're coming from Edinburgh you could park in or around North Shields and hop ion the Metro to the start. At the finish walk to South Shields ferry, hop over on ferry and then walk to car parked in North Shields). FM me if more specifics needed. Another place to park is Northumberland Park Metro multi story and Metro into start/back form finish.

I've been looking at the map of South Shields. On three occasions I drove to Newcastle, we stayed within easy access of the A19 the night before, drove to South Shields early on the day (parked on street for free at River Drive, on a bridge over the Metro) had a short walk to the Metro to go to the start. On finishing, walked back to the car, which was on an open route across the course, traffic was busy, but we got out and hit the A19 quite quickly.

That said, my final destination was south.

DeeGee - yes, thinking about it again for heading north my recommendaiton would definitely to be to try and park on the north side of the Tyne - otherwise you may find yourself stuck for a couple of hours just trying to get back onto the north side in a car! :)

Trivago is chucking up some reasonably priced stuff in Morpeth. Not sure how the trains to Central would look at that time on a Sunday, but would a 20 minute drive to the Airport and then Metro to Monument work? Then it would be a loooong wait for the Metro at South Shields for the return, or the Shields Ferry and back.

The big bonus in Morpeth being the fantastic name of the Wetherspoons there.

I emailed the GNR and they suggested sub 79 for a male would qualify for a "fast paced" place. Just in case anyone is interested! (Way beyond me!)
