A relatively fit (but mid-80s) member of my family wants 'a watch that is also a pedometer' This is primarily for counting steps while walking the dog. In an ideal world he would not wish to spend more than about £5.99 on such a product.

I bought as a Christmas present a relatively inexpensive Huawei device but it has to be paired with an app on a smartphone and my relative tells me he does not have a smartphone. I suspect having looked at the phone it would be possible but it would complicate things more than necessary and the phone is rarely switched on anyway.

So can anyone advise on a product that might suit please? At the moment I am simply thinking I might just hand over my Garmin Forerunner 10 (or is it a 15 I can't remember!) which although doing lots of other things that will be of no use to him you can just use it as a watch and see how many steps you've done. I would tell my relative I will swap for the Huawei device although actually I'd probably get something else for myself.

For 5.99 you can probably get a perfectly good pedometer which counts your steps, unlikely to get anything else for that price! And most watches with step counters also need pairing with an app anyway

Ooh I tell a lie there are watches for that price online. No idea of their quality! Or whether pairing with an app is part of setting it up. Pedometers are very simple though you do have to wear them on your waistband usually.

Aren't most of the ones that *can* be paired with a smart phone perfectly funtional without the smartphone element?

I will be buying the watch so I am not limited to the £5.99 budget but on the other hand will not be able to purchase something costing £105.99 - Less than 50 quid is probably going to be where I pitch if I can and if it 'looks cheap' so much the better. My budget is somewhat limited but the recipient will not be happy if I spend 'too much' money on it!

Certainly the one that I purchased Larkim does not seem to work without a smartphone. Suggestions of those that can much appreciated.

Fleecy the person in question already has a pedometer (I know!!) it is the pedometer-that-is-also-a-watch that is specifically required - which were the ones you have seen online - the Christmas gift in question was a Huawei from Argos (I think about £25) but does need to be paired with a smartphone.
Thanks to all who have responded so far - I have promised to sort this by next week so suggestions still needed please!

What about a child's activity tracker? They tend to be cheaper, and presumably doesn't need a phone connection?

I know my Garmin shows the data on the watch, I can view it on my phone/PC, but I don't need too?

Found this article, don't know if any of these are with budget?
