I'm with you, MMM. I don't like mucky, gooey running, so tarmac (without potholes) suits me fine; at least you know where your foot is likely to land.

Another one here with MMM, having recently moved to a very rural corner of the world, I'm getting better at mud and hills and first running, but give me tarmac any day of the week, particularly as most of my runs are in the dark!

I don't mind quiet roads but overall enjoy a mix. Ideally I'd always pick trails, forests etc just for the psychological impact of nice surroundings. However (!), in my days of pace I chased PB's and they could really be achieved in road races. A PB is on the books forever. Have had a bit of a knee issue so being careful this week.

No running yesterday (rest day) or today (probably as have prep duty) but yesterday I did yoga and did a shoulder stand for the first time ever.

I like the mud and trails, but have to be careful with my MS on where I select to run, so if off road it has to be good conditions and a reasonably solid path....

4.75 tonight with interval training, 6 x 150m 3 x 300m and 3 x 150m...... looking forwards to teh payback if I can keep these sessions up over the coming weeks.

I did go for a run. SO stressed at work that I needed to but on nights like yesterday I really wish I had a treadmill at home. It was cold, dark, wet and windy. I lost count of the number of cars that drove too close and soaked me as they went through puddles.

A fall running off road, is preferable to a fall on tarmac which could easily cause a fracture or worse.

Steve, I was the same as you in my speedy days, all my pb's were set in road races. Take care with that knee!

RFJ, an excellent interval session, regular speed work will produce results.

MrsB, well done for running in such adverse conditions. I also hate it when cars, often deliberately, drive too near to the kerb, sending water across the pavements soaking all and sundry.

Yesterday was a spinning session, and today a steady 5 miles on roads with a running friend. The wind was "vicious" and I wish I hadn't worn shorts. My legs don't normally feel the cold, but this morning they did😬

hilstrider, I take your point, but I think also I'm less likely to fall over in the first place on a smoother/more regular surface! A balance of risk and probability. And maybe I'm more of a city boy than I thought. ;-)

There's a particularly nasty leak in York at the moment from the "foul" sewer which you really don't want to be on the receiving end of the car splash from!

Ew! Nasty!

I ran up and down one of the lanes near here - no cars and properly dark tonight. I reckon I am probably more visible at night with head torch, reflective vest etc. etc. than I am during the day.
