I’ve just discovered that the town near us has installed a ‘Happy To Chat’ bench to combat loneliness. I haven’t had a chance to go sit on it yet to talk to someone, but I think it’s a lovely idea.

Happy To Chat thread? :-)

Found this on twitter

Mind you, can you imagine sitting there hoping to chat and everyone avoids you like the plague. Could be soul destroying.

I'm simultaneously happy to chat all day and in possession of the superpower of being good at refraining from talking :)

Personally I find it a lot easier to chat on Fetch than in the real world. I'm pretty shy and a bit of an introvert so the thought of a "Happy to Chat" bench where strangers would strike up a conversation fills me with dread!

I guess that doesn't show me in a very favourable light but it's just who I am and I think I always will be.

What HG said

There's one near here too. I'm like Nellers, talking to strangers fills me with horror. I do it all day at work tho and that doesn't bother me at all. I suppose it's the effect of the professional barrier, or whatever it's called.

I recently heard about a woman who wore an 'I talk to strangers' badge. I suppose that could be taken as an invitation or a warning - depending on your point of view.

WA, I also have to deal with strangers a lot when I'm working. It's not all the time, though, and I'm more comfortable when I don't have to. I'd even say I'm pretty good at it, in the context of my job and my experience, but it's bloody exhausting!

We were going to try and start something similar at parkrun but never quite got round to it - I must bring it up again
