Fetch, do you think the thread is going round in circles now? It has been very interesting and informative but well, my last sentence?

In the interests of harmony I’ll slink back into the lurking shadows. Apologies if anybody has been offended or upset by anything I’ve posted.

My final statement is just that I completely agree with Jambo’s post.

Yeah, i'm sorry if I have contributed to making the thread a negative one in any way, it was totally not my intention.

People have been pretty reasonable and mainly tried to be fair and good humoured - but it feels like an impasse has been reached - that's all!

Perhaps close the thread but leave readable?

I’m not a big poster on these forums so maybe not my place to comment but I do browse and have been watching this thread with interest since the conversation started on the parkrun thread. It has been both educational and difficult to read at times.

Thanks to everyone who had shared but rather than close it, perhaps with the weekend coming up that the thread gets voluntarily ‘paused’ until Monday.

This will hopefully allow everyone to think about their arguments, do a bit more reading and research and come back fresh, being able to articulate their thoughts a bit better without the emotion which is causing upset?

I don't hope that anyone will stop posting. Quite the opposite actually - it's good to get a wide range of opinions. I'm very proud and amazed that the Fetch community has needed very little enforced blocking over the last fifteen years.

What's needed is a tone of respect for the other perspectives. I also like this, taken from the Politics thread:

yourlogicalfallacyis.com

Sharkie - it certainly feels a bit like that - but I think that's as much to do with the nature of the forum - it's easy to lose track of a linear thread that moves quickly with multiple contributors. Way off topic, but I'd like to build some sort of multi-noded logical hierarchy - each node represents a statement e.g. "tigers are eating more mice", and each connection representing a "therefore". So (sorry you) something like "Tigers are eating more mice" therefore "damage to grain sacks reduces", therefore "grain prices fall" etc. A trivial example, but people could vote and argue on the veracity of each statement and the ones that follow on from it.

Or I could just start cracking heads together ;-)

An article in todays Times, although cricket, seems to cover the differing views.

Campaigners have said that English cricket’s policy of allowing men to play in women’s professional matches simply by identifying as female “makes a mockery of the women’s game”.

The ECB said it is unlikely to change its policy before the introduction of a new professional women’s league next year, but that it will be looked at as part of a general review of all policies. If it remains the same, it will mean transgender women will not have to take testosterone suppressants unless they are selected for England.

Nicola Williams, a spokeswoman for the Fair Play For Women campaign group, said: “It doesn’t look as if the ECB are going to change their policy ahead of the new professional structure which makes a mockery of the women’s game. It means that it will be feasible for someone who has grown up to be a man to be paid to play women’s cricket simply by saying they identify as female.

“Cricket is the first governing body to go down this route. Most governing bodies follow a rule where there has to be some testosterone suppression which at least acknowledges the male body has physical advantages.”

Williams said that English cricket needed to have a proper review and consult more widely, including speaking to women’s groups.

Cricket Australia announced new guidelines this month which say male-to-female players in elite women’s cricket have to reduce their testosterone to below 10nmol/litre for at least a year — the same as the ICC’s rules, which also cover England players.

The ECB said: “In our current policy, the eligibility of players is based on one’s own self-identified gender, with no medical requirement. We are proud that this model promotes an inclusive environment for all participants.”

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
It would be nice if some people posting calmed down a little and digested what is being posted instead of immediately reacting. Everyone

I would really like to have seen opinions and experiences of m-f transgender posts but I imagine they may very well be too cautious due to the tone :-( (actually we may already have had m-f for all we would know, and for all you know I might even be trans)

I would like to add my apologies to TR and Vixx.
