This is a resurrection of a concept from a few years back. fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=52477

The idea is that for runners, there is value in doing non-running training. And as goal oriented humans (and especially Fetchies as high-achieving humans!) we like a way of measuring this. So not just distance running "100 miles per month" or pace "sub 50 min 10K" or even performance (PBs or WAVAs), but just time.

How much time you have spent doing the stuff that you think is of training value. Could be swimming, cycling, rowing. Could be yoga, pilates, step classes. Could be just stretching or mobility in front of the telly. Or walking.

Set your own target number of hours per month. State it, do it, come here and brag about it (or confess that you didn't and receive gentle encouragement!)

Fortunately, FetchEveryone website has evolved since 2013 and there are now great tools to allow you to see exactly your progress of different types of training and the hours spent. So you don't need to do the manual counting it all up that we had to back in the day!

Anyone fancy this? I'll start by setting my goal.

In 2013/14 (my best years) I managed over 500 hours per year, 40 plus hours a month, 10 hours per week. Last year (my worst) I was down at 200, so less than 4 hours per week. So a modest goal might be 240 per year, a round 20 per month or about 5 hours per week. Hopefully I'll smash it!!

Excellent idea to resurrect this :) G
Interestingly my best year in hours was last year - 400 - despite having a drop in mileage, so I know that was down to having hugely increased my cross-training. This year I am averaging 30 hours a month which ought to result in a similar total, which seems realistic.

Ooh, I like this! Aside from cross training and multi-discipline athletes, I also think it makes more sense for hill runners, where time is perhaps a more convenient measure than distance.

I’m aiming for 520 hours, so think I’m:
zp - 520 - 247 - 35 - No. Time to start tracking those 30 minute lunchtime gym sessions.

Good point zp - and generally slow runners (not saying that hill runners are slow runners, btw. I was supporting at a local hill race yesterday - oh my goodness, the young whippets at the front were fast!)

Also, ultra runners - even more time than distance!

Hi AL, I'll add you in too! 30 per month is pretty awesome! zp - wow to 520! :-) G

The last two years I totalled around 285 hours, so I'm going to set my target for 2019 as 300 i.e. 25 hours per month.

westmoors - 300 - 161 - 36 - Yes :-)

Hi Westmoors, welcome. Nice target. I think I've been a bit conservative with mine. I really ought to push it up to 300 and get to the gym or swim more often. :-) G

About the thread:

A shout out if anyone else wants to set themselves a goal in terms of time training (hours).

Remember, whatever you want to count as training... counts as training. If it's walking the dog, cycling to work, mindfulness and meditation, knitting, whatever you want to track, you track the hours!!

For anyone who wants to join us - it's easy, just estimate how many hours a year of training you want to do, and each month we see if we're on target.

2024 is a GO! :-) G

Here we track time spent doing anything you want to track as training. Ideal for non-runners, cross trainers, walkers, the injured etc!

Time has now been added to most logs, summaries and graphs, so thanks Fetch! :-) G
