I agree Keith, and we can all have a bad day.

Has anyone got any contingency plans if London is cancelled due to the coronavirus?
It would be a massive last resort decision if they do cancel the 40th marathon, but at the rate the virus is spreading I can't say that I would be completely surprised if it does come to that.

I so hope it doesn't

I have been looking at other marathons on the same day within a 50 mile radius of London

The thought has occurred to me. I don't know what else is out there on that day though.

It would be Edinburgh for me but chances would be that being off as well

Paris half appears to have been cancelled and that was tomorrow!

It’s a gamble about where they set the bar for large events. Italy apparent at 1000 people France at 5000. 5000 would allow a number of ok road marathon alternatives to happen.

I think it may depend on more than just the total number, eg Paris is close to one of their outbreaks and the HM could possibly attract a lot of visitors from all over France and beyond, whereas football matches outside of the most heavily affected areas of France (which probably have a similar number of attendees, but mostly local) are still on. Of course there is no guarantee that decisions will be made on a consistent and logical basis anyway.

Of course it’s a rapidly evolving situation. Cancelling a 40000 person race the day before shows that :-)

I think there's a good chance it will be cancelled too Trin but I'm not sure what else will be happening if so. The Swiss have gone for the 1000 limit too.

I hadn't heard about Paris half Keith.

Once the virus is rife, containment measures stop being as relevant. The daily commute on the tube in London will be as hazardous as congregating for a marathon.

But so long as they are consistent and close down football matches etc too, then I suppose runners can't feel too hard done by.

I agree larkim but I don't think the public would tolerate the underground being closed but they will feel that the government is doing something that they can get on board with by stopping large gatherings. It's not always about what's effective unfortunately.
