Reading the drills sessions made my head hurt! Suspect those will be tricky. The tempo intervals went ok this morning though.

Nice one MzG, any more crazy drills this week?

I went out yesterday lunchtime, weather too nice not to, and snuck in a little 20 miler with a couple of hills, love that the profile in the training log makes it look like a vertical cliff face, it certainly feels like it at times.

Quarry Wood Road if Dibble is reading this :-)

I didnt get in the ballot but am still awaiting the team ballot results.

Have completed the ride 3 times (the first 2 years, and last year in biblical weather) and I have to say it is a great event, and as strange as it sounds, quite an easy ride. Sadly I dont seem to have much luck as have been held up in delays in all 3 races and always at Leith Hill (which is a pig of a climb). Box Hill is fun, and not as hard as you think - just keep it steady.

If I do get in this year I do hope to be riding with out any damaged bones (last year was cracked ribs, and the time before broken toe)

Good luck with the training

Bad luck MM, fingers crossed for your team then.

I've driven up box hill and it seemed fine :-)

What were the delays caused by?

Accidents each time on Leith Hill - having to wait for ambulances, air ambulance etc. It depends on your start times as to what the congestion is like - last year the biblical weather helped with the riders not being "too silly" and "too fast". Last year we were diverted and only completed 92 miles, but the previous two times I was stuck on Leith Hill for 60 & 90 mins while they dealt with the incidents. Its always seems to be Leith Hill.

Please dont let it put you off - it is a great ride, so nice not to have to worry about traffic and watch out for the hill in Wimbledon at the end - its not big but it hurts right near the end.

Blimey, i assume that's going down the hill too fast rather than up it?

That's a long wait, but i guess you just have to accept it gracefully, i'll be very sad if i don't get to do the full 100, was planning not to quite get there in training so that i can celebrate the ride properly.

Actually both were heart attacks going up, although there were also crashes going down too. Sadly with that amount of riders it will happen and there will be a few people coming off.

Last year I only managed to do 50 miles before the day (due to cracking the ribs 5 weeks before) but if the base layer of fitness is there (from running, swimming etc) it really is a lovely day out cycling. The biggest issue is getting the "undercarraige" ready for being in the saddle for 100 miles

Hey lammo, if you can master Quarry Wood Road then Box Hill will be a cinch!

Lammo - my long ride on Sunday ended up being 70% headwind so the intervals on Tues were pitiful, and didn't attempt sweet spot on Wednesday. Finally being sensible!
Well done on getting out there! No hills to speak of round here, just very windy in the Fens. Got a 90k planned for tomorrow, a point to point then catching the train back. Should be a tail wind 🤞

I was going to blog about this, but thought there might be more interest than my blog generates :-) ...
