Has anyone put in for the ballot yet? I thought I'd wait and see how I felt today but think I'd rather do something smaller.

I’m going to enter again. Despite the holdups I really enjoyed it. (I was actually expecting some, and prepared for the possibility of the hills being closed) May as well see if I’m lucky. But will try and get an earlier start.

Entered again, only holdups were caused by poor marshalling at the crossing points in kingston, Raynes Park, and Wimbledon.
Was pretty hectic when we joined back in with the 46 mile ride, also noticed a lot riding with no numbers, and some obviously fake photocopied and laminated numbers.

Unlike at the marathon, there did not seem to be any checks, and very poor organisation around the medal hanging

I got stopped/held up many times at crossing points where they had stop signs. And had a motorbike escort down through a town at one point! (Stopping is going to fast but it was a wide road so not sure why, perhaps they were letting cars through ahead)
I did spot many with no back number, and a few with no chip at all. And some weird bikes when we had the 19 mile riders join in.

One of my colleagues mentioned that there were quite a few stop/start bits. He didn't ride it this year but if he ever does, he wants to get an early start to avoid the crowds - plus he's quite speedy.

A couple in my pen had done it several times before and were disappointed to be so far back (as was I). I can’t actually remember what I put, 7.30 or 8.00 I think. But I can see why so many people put faster times than they’re capable off if they’re worried about cutoff or crowds.

I put 5.30 last year and have done the same again this year. I also dont let them look at my strava account as my times on there are all over the place due to the guided rides I do.

6.30 start this year and no hold ups to speak of - had to let an ambulance pass on Leith hill and we were stopped halfway (honestly) up wimbledon hill

Mandy did you find you were similar speed to the riders around you? My chip time was 6h54, my riding time for 94 miles was about 6h10, and I think without the slow bits I'd have been 6h30 for the full distance, if not closer to 6. I loved the first 20 miles, I averaged 18mph and didn't put a foot down or use my small chainring until at least 30 miles (Richmond Park drinks notwithstanding). I was constantly overtaking though, a few went past me but I passed many more. It seems I was lucky to be able to ride up Leith Hill without getting log jammed.

It was still a very mixed pace around me. Lots going pass me, me passing lots. Didnt feel out of my depth at all. At some points I was cycling on my own others with lots around me. Was lovely to go through Dorking for the first time without any bottle necks 😁

I was going to blog about this, but thought there might be more interest than my blog generates :-) ...
