I have just fmailed 1000 high mileage Fetchies to ask them if they'd be willing to participate in a new game that I hope to release within the next week.

The game is called 'Trader', and is relatively simple (I hope). Traders start with 1000 credits, and must buy and sell shares in Runners. No real money changes hands, and there are no prizes - it's just for fun.

The value of each Runner is arrived at by looking at their total mileage over the last 90 days (so for example, my current value is 169).

If a Trader thinks I'm due an increase, they can pay 169 credits to 'own shares' in me. If my value goes up, they make a tidy profit, and can sell me at any point.

The obvious negative here is that if I get injured or fed up, my value goes down - which might not feel too great for me as a Runner. BUT on the positive side, it's a good way for Fetchies to get to know each other a bit better - and if you are injured or not doing so well, there's someone out there who might notice, and give you a bit of support or encouragement.

Rather than just making trading a free-for-all, I thought it was best that the folks who can be 'bought and sold' are joining in of their own free will. So I've invited those Fetchies with highest mileage to make themselves tradeable, if they feel like they'd be ok with any negative aspects of the game. I will put the game live when we have at least 100 tradeable runners.

For updates on the game, please follow this thread... :-) And leave your comments :-) Bing bong.

Old Croc
surely putting low mileage runners up means that their value can only go up?

To get into the top 1000 based on pure mileage alone was 1253.XX for 2018 - but the list I fmailed also had a requirement that the recipient had visited the site in January - so that brought the requirement down to about 770. The goal was to get not just high-mileage users, but active ones too. I expect if I tried the same exercise in another month, that 770 figure would be a good deal higher.

Sigh
“This game includes forward-looking information and statements as well as other statements concerning the outlook for our runners. These statements are based on current expectations, estimates and projections about the factors that may affect their future performance, including weather, laziness, prospect of injury, and the availability of major races for Fetchies. These expectations, estimates and projections are generally identifiable by statements containing words such as “expects,” “believes,” “estimates,” “anticipates”, “targets,” “plans,” “is likely”, “intends”, “aims”, or similar expressions. However, there are many risks and uncertainties, many of which are beyond our control, that could cause our actual results to differ materially from the forward-looking information and statements made in this game and which could affect our ability to achieve any or all of our stated targets. The important factors that could cause such differences include, among others, risks associated with the volatile weather and environment, costs associated with race activities, runners’ acceptance of new products and services, changes in Athletics regulations and such other factors as may be discussed from time to time in FE’s blogs. Although Fetch believes that its expectations reflected in any such forward-looking statement are based upon reasonable assumptions, it can give no assurance that those expectations will be achieved.”

Might lead to stalking people on the forums to see who's training for a marathon or ultra.

My woeful 2018 means I am *not* one of the 1000. Any and every other year of the last 10 years on Fetch I would have been. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing! As will all your fun games Fetch, I'd give it a go. :-) G

How To Play
As a trader, your job is to pick the runners that you think will increase in value.

You start with 1000 credits, and can use these to purchase shares in runners. If you think their mileage is about to drop, then it's time to sell.

Runner values are calculated based on the total volume of running mileage completed in the last 90 days. Values are recalculated as soon as a runner has logged a run.

Runners get a notification when you buy shares, but not when you sell them.

The value of a runner can go up or down, but don't threaten them. Have fun!
