I saw comments on FB to that effect as well andy: fine in the morning but churned up by the time 1000 had been over it. Just as well it had been dry for a week (light shower overnight). Although it's good to go up there on a walk, not ideal for an event. There is scope to modify the route and miss out the very top.

1375 finishers over the eight waves, some taking well over the hour. However, given the bunching of times in the middle and narrow paths, not much scope to have starts arranged by expected time (which would make it seem more like a race than a very expensive fun run). Maybe fast half over early waves, slower over latter waves.

I also wonder how much the road closures cost? Since Stirling Council threw in funding to bring the xcs to town, possible nothing at all. I wonder if they would be so generous to a locally organised event?

yes it was too expensive and the route is no good for a race, it's too narrow in most places and far too hilly and mostly unsuitable terrain which made it dangerous, they're lucky there wasn't some serious injuries, apart from my ankle which is still sore, it's more like a fun run/walk to see some nice views of Stirling.

The Plean mud should be nicely frozen ;-) I'll be keeping an eye on FB in case of cancellations.

They tweaked the start at Plean, but apart fae that, it wasn't too slippy.

It was me Iain.

Anybody done the Mull of Kintyre marathon? Looks tough.

If the Glentress half is the one I'm thinking of, it's run on the black run MTB course and is close to evil. Mud like a XC, hills like a fell run, and the time of year has meant serious cold and snow in some years. Everyone I know who's done it absolutely loved it.
