Steve, I've got a few crowns (5/-) stored away somewhere. I don't know when they ceased to be used as ordinary currency, but in my lifetime that were minted for special occasions (coronations, et.). The sovereign and the guinea would have been even longer ago I expect.

I ran on the 800m.+ gravel track at Neath this morning, and did a set of 6x400m. intervals. I need to sharpen up my speed a little, and it was good to warm up a little with a frosty night and only 2deg.C at 11.30am., and that's at sunny South Wales. If only!

Well done Steve, keep it up now.

I can remember when very young, my mother teaching me to count. We would place 4 threepenny bits, one on top of the other, to make one shilling.

This morning was well below freezing and I ran 8.6 miles in the forest with a running friend. It was lovely and sunny, and the grass was covered with frost. There was a lot of deep mud and standing water, necessitating walking and wading.

In 1971, I was in 2nd year in secondary school so remember pre- decimal currency well. I don't recall farthings as valid currency however.

We must have been a poor house or just a large family (7 children at that point) as we only had 3d pieces in our Christmas pudding.

I also distinctly remember some sheet music that had been shamelessly repriced from 1/6d to 15p!

No running (or swimming) yet this month as has to undergo some hospital procedures.

Ah, as a child I and my brother found a ten shilling note on our way to school one day. We had to take it to the Police Station, but after 3 months no-one had claimed it so we got 5 Bob each!

Can you imagine taking in a 50 pence piece to the Police nowadays? 😄

Thanks folks! No run today though. Yep, enjoyed the jam Peter!
I have a couple of Victorian crowns, well worn and belonged to my grandparents in the early 1900's. A crown was worth quite a lot way back then.
!!! I can recall that level of honesty too Mmm and it was a period when the 10 Commandments were taught to some degree not only in Sunday School but in ordinary State school. Not such a bad set of principles to live by overall. For some reason (!!) such rules to live by are sometimes scoffed at today- and we see the results.

A good spin session, this morning, a mixture of hill and flat work.
