Larkim- I agree it's a matter of chance and I didn't expect the poll to change things. Having been rejected for quite a few years despite having always donated by fee, I was interested in knowing what portion of people donated their fee and whether it really improved my chances.

It currently seems to indicate that around a quarter of entrants donate their fee in advance (that was about what I expected based on chatting to friends). It also shows it does roughly double your chances from about 1 in 11 to about 1 in 5. Personally I feel the odds are higher than that given the number of London reject items of clothing in my wardrobe.

I suspect fetchies might be more likely to pay to increase their chances. I do see quite a few when I’m out running though

I'm in for 2019, I had a ballot place in 2018 (first success in 7 years of trying) but deferred due to injury.

Dibble - I don't think the poll can tell you that, the sample is too small. I don't think there is any evidence that the ballot has a preference to donators or not, it's just pure luck of the draw.

I agree with Larkim, I think it's just luck. I've donated every year and finally after trying since 2009 I got through the ballot for 2019. The commiserations clothing quality is getting better year on year lol.

I've had one public ballot place, and two club ballots, having entered the ballot every year since 2007. It's a great event, and I enter the ballot every year, but it ain't worth me paying 2 grand to do. There are loads of other fun events elsewhere and I'm enjoying doing my foreign marathons now. Country number 9 next Spring for me...

Are you sure it was as late as 2013 hells bells? I thought virgin abolished it when they took over in 2010. As I remember getting to 5 around 2011 and it not being an option

I got a ballot place in 2012 - it would have been my fifth consecutive rejection if I'd not got in, and I thought it was the last year for which I'd have been able to claim a place on that basis (i.e., I'd have been able to claim a place in 2013 after five consecutive rejections 2008 - 2012).
