Just too muddy the waters, Margarita, I agree with Fleecy. If the the weather has been kind a week or two before the event, then road shoes are fine.

If however, there's been a lot of rain in the week before the event, I'd wear trail shoes.

I was fine in road shoes last year, although my feet hurt a lot more than usual. I don't think trail shoes would have helped that though.

Thanks all. I'm thinking will probably wear trail shoes, so as not to dampen husband's spirit - he's slowly coming round to the idea and has bought a snazzy pair of orange trail shoes!
Oh and I'm up to 5miles (on the flat) without walking!

If you have comfy trail shoes they would be ideal. YOu've got to keep an eye on the weather though, as there are some descents that can be slippy in the wet coming off chalk hills. One could of course try taking it easy down these instead of running them.

I train in road shoes so I run it in road shoes, whatever the weather - though I think 2010 was the only year I've run it when the ground's been really wet (chucked it down all night before the race). And it has to be said that I definitely take it easy!

That said, if I found a comfortable pair of trail shoes I can see they'd have an advantage. I only have Adidas Kanadias which I hate to the point of not actually wearing them, even for 5K. My usual road shoes have a trail equivalent so I might see how I get on with those.

My mileage has been way down this year so it’s going to be a slow one. I’ve told Bint to take a big book if she’s going to wait for me at the end!

Liebling and I should be there (barring any more Aged P type dilemmas, of which there have been quite a few recently).
