The numbers are taken from the Final Instructions PDF and use of a minus button on a calculator.

There will be large chunks of individual numbers within that 62,000 numbers that are not actually issued. For starters there isn't 400 elites, but that will be something like 1-50 elite men, 101-130 elite women, another 20 para numbers and similar for wheelchairs. There is probably also not 1099 celebs and their minders (if that is what that block of numbers are) but they will just have the number pre-assigned.

I'm certain that they stated something in the region very close to 50k numbers issued for last years event at the start line, and that more than any previous year had actually turned up to collect their numbers. It's certainly a significant number more than 38,000 numbers issued.

Number spreads are as follows:-
0 - 400 - elite & ?celebs? (400 numbers)
401 - 2650 - champs (2249 numbers)
2651 - 23370 - blue (20719 numbers)
23371 to 24470 - green (1099 numbers)
24471 - 25810 - blue (1339 numbers)
25811 - 30920 - green (5109 numbers)
30921 - 33380 - FGFA red (2459 numbers)
33381 - 59840 - red (26459 numbers)

Don't know where the 3319 ?deferred entries? number comes from when you sequence the bib numbers like that, that's the difference between the 62000 and the 59840 I think.

On the "celebs" - Sophie Raworth is 22858, Chris Evans 23121, Scott Mills 23111 etc. All the celeb numbers I could track down were within the blue range.

There also aren't 400 elites running, so there are plenty of unusued numbers in there I'd have thought.

Interestingly there are runners listed with numbers higher than 59840. Wonder if they know where to start ;-) ?

They all seem to be overseas runners, numbers go up to somewhere in the 62000s

You missed the numbers 59481 to 62800 which are also on the Blue start.

I'm just making educated guesses as to if those might be deferred numbers, could be something else entirely.

Those celebs numbers are odd though as those people will definitely be started from Green as they will need to be there for doing pre-race interviews. Some of the celebs will have "minders" running with them as well so could be that their numbers are the ones in the Green sequence.

Ahh, yes. Those other blue numbers up to 62000 could be international ballot, or international sports tour group numbers could be another block as well.

Aha, indeed! That explains those numbers.

I suspect those high numbers are overseas entries then, given the digging I did via the app.

So my table should read
0 - 400 - elite & ?celebs? (400 numbers) - lots of unallocated numbers
401 - 2650 - champs (2249 numbers) - numbers 2006 to 2650 appear unallocated
2651 - 23370 - blue (20719 numbers) - includes celebs
23371 to 24470 - green (1099 numbers)
24471 - 25810 - blue (1339 numbers)
25811 - 30920 - green (5109 numbers)
30921 - 33380 - FGFA red (2459 numbers)
33381 - 59840 - red (26459 numbers)
59841 - 62800 - blue (2959 numbers) - overseas?

The actual celebs tend to have weird purple/ green numbers and then a bunch of star stickers on the number as well as some kind of way for the TV crews to be able to spot them on the course or grab them from the crowd before they get interviewed on Tower Bridge etc.

Don't know about the celeb starts etc, but it is interesting that lots of people have perceptions that there are "loads" of celebs. If you read the media pack stuff, they only list a very small number (46), most of whom I've never heard of.

There are 20 MPs running too.

I don't think the celeb numbers are minder numbers - they link through to their profiles on the app etc, I don't think the majority of them have / need any minders, and there'd be little reason to spoof their names or hide them.

But I presume if you are a celeb you don't read the race pack and are specifically directed to a start location irrespective of where your number falls within the various blocks anyway.

I wouldn't always trust the nationality setting that you see listed against peoples numbers. I think that the sports tour groups may all be assigned as GBR runners as there are several hundred French runners each year staying in the hotel I tend to stay at, yet in the results there are next to no French runners listed for example.
