Glad to hear he's on the mend, Nellers. I'm sure he's relieved to know you're looking after your mum so that he can concentrate on getting better. Hope he bounces back soon.

That's a lot on your plate, Nellers (as if figuring out the Wolverine wasn't enough in itself!)

Sending positive vibes for a happy outcome.

Dad tried to race me to the loo today. He didn’t win (i’m Not throwing a race even in his state.😉) but at least he managed to get up and walk. He’s definitely on the mend. I’ve got to get home tomorrow though for work on Tuesday and i’m A bit worried about how he’s going to manage in the ward with his eating, which he struggles with unless someone either feeds him or sits with him and keeps him eating. Back up here on Friday and we’ll see how things have gone. Fingers crossed I might be visiting him at home by then.

Non-rowing chat is fine too, Nellers. Racing to the loo sounds like great progress in this particular instance. Hopefully he'll get his appetite back soon too. In the meantime, is it possible to ask for an HCA to keep an eye on him at meal times, or at least make sure they don't take his food away before he's finished?

No 2K challenges for me at the moment but I did manage 6K today, which is the furthest and fastest I've done since my injury. It's frustrating having lost so much fitness, but on the other hand I'm managing to keep the s/r low and build up the power that way rather than being tempted to go back to the fast but weedy stroke pattern I was using when I first started rowing. So a few positives there.

Stroke efficiency is definitely the best route to speed CW.

Did 3x1000m/5:00r the other night for this months C2CTC.
I managed sub 1:50/500m but can’t imagine holding this for 2000m.

The shower has packed up at home so rowing is now restricted to bath nights...:)

Hope your dad is okay Nellers. As CW says, racing to the loo sounds like good progress :-)

CW, I know it’s frustrating when you’re coming back from an injury and feel like you’ve lost fitness though - I’m sure that will come back soon, and on the positive side keeping the stroke rate low is great!

I knew I’d struggle to get all 3 sessions in this week (we’ve been in London for the weekend, just heading home now), but after the 10K session earlier in the week managed to do the interval session, which was better both in terms of s/r and speed. I do wonder if I was too quick to dismiss the longer sessions as well, just as I’ve been finding them tough - when I first started doing the programme, I felt like the erg sessions were helping with my speed/speed endurance - though was only really noticing this in interval sessions. The day after the 10K erg session, I ran easily my fastest 5K of the year, so maybe it is paying off. Will stick with the programme as is for another few weeks, then if I’m struggling still with the longer sessions will see if I need to adapt.

I've had to come home and leave them to it because I have to be back int he office tomorrow. I'll be back up there on Friday to see him again. If he keeps progressing the way he has I might be visiting him at home by then rather than the hospital. We'll see.

MIght get on the rower tomorrow after work. Or I might not. Depends how I feel.

Good to hear he's continuing to make progress. Home by Friday sounds very positive.

The rower can wait for a few days if necessary. Sounds like you've had a tough few days so make sure you look after yourself too, Nellers. :-)
