I JF did I.

I was nearly sick after the second rep. My pace tailed off a bit on the last one. But it's done. It's in the bank. I need to refuel.

Where is everyone? How are you getting on?

Just clocked my 3rd 100km week in a row. Not sure if I'll row tomorrow at all. If the sun shines I'll try to get out on my bike I think.

Also, I'm thinking about trying something a bit different for a couple of months with my training and see if I can get my Half-Marathon time down a bit before going back to tryingto get the top speed up for the 2k. Undecided at the moment but I'm musing on how my training would change if I tried it.

Three weeks of 100km is good going, Nellers. Well done!

Sounds like you've already got a good base for having a go at reducing your HM time. And training for that would build a good base for working on your 2K when you decide to go back to that. Guess you'd probably drop the eyeballs-out stuff but build in some longer intervals.

I was back on the erg this morning after another set-back last weekend (managed to displace my SI joint trying to move the rower into the house from the yard). Feeling decidedly weedy after 5 weeks on the injury/sick bench, but I enjoyed my 10 minutes easy this morning and am hoping to move on from there.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how long it takes to build training back up after a lay-off? I was about half-way through the beginners' Pete Plan when things fell apart, and I know I can't launch straight back in to the plan at the same point, but I'm not sure whether I should be thinking in terms of building it all up from scratch and starting the plan again at week 1, or if I can reasonably expect to build up a bit faster and drop back into the plan at some mid-way point.

My only advice on re-starting is to listen to your body and err on the side of caution. I'd suggest a week of not worrying about the plan and just getting on the rower when you can and doing what you feel you can manage. If that goes well and you don't have any reaction do a bit more the next week. If you can add in some of the less intense sessions from the plan that gives you an idea of how far you are from "normal".

On my plan, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. Drop the Level 1 "faster than 2k pace" intervals each week and replace it with a second tempo/threshold (Level 3) session. Also make at least one of my 45 minute Aerobic sessions up to an hour and do a longer (90-120 minutes?) session each weekend.

I reckon that would mean 100-120km weeks pretty much every week but without the top-end stuff that really exhausts me.

First outdoor row. Fairly easy 10k for a Sunday afternoon.
Summer 5K run series starts Tuesday so will squeeze in some rowing when I can.

I'm still here. Taking a few days off while other stuff crowds in - impending housemove, ugh. The removals guy was in to quote this morning, and it turns out his company did a job recently transporting a whole bunch of C2s. He's a keen rower himself, and looked the part as well. Down here in Cornwall gig racing is a big thing and he was urging me to give it a try. I saw some gigs in the harbour the other day so maybe, just maybe ...

Good to hear you're on the road to recovery CW - I think Nellers' sugesstion to forget about the plan this week and just doing what you can seems sensible.

I'm still doing a bit and following the plan, but it has been tricky to fit things in the last couple of weeks. When I started off, I knew trying to do the two optional sessions was unlikely to happen, but my aim was to fit the three mandatory sessions in between Monday-Sunday each week. This worked fine up until week 8, when I managed to fit the two sessions in, but had to carry the third over to week 9, then the same thing happened again last week - I was able to do the second session of week 9 on Saturday, but haven't done the third one yet (I'm doing it tonight). Technically I should still be able to fit 3 sessions in this week, however work is busy, I've got to do my first 10K for the longest session this week which will take ages, and we're away on a running club trip to Plymouth this weekend (cheap and cheerful hotel so no gym). Will see how it goes this week, but I'm thinking it may be easier to just start week 10 from next week and just add a week to the plan.

That's an interesting piece, and it certainly feels like that's what's happening inthe second half of a 2k!

Also good to know about the sunflowers.;-)
