Anyone else here ever do long distance walking or hiking? I'm training for a half marathon, I don't think I could ever run a marathon, and if I did manage it, I couldn't run much further, but I have entered long distance walking events before and I regularly used to walk 30miles a couple of times a week when I was training, these days I don't walk so far unless I'm in the lake district on holiday as I'm concentrating on running, but considering entering another 100km next year.

Hi Mark, I tried walking once...

A few years back, before I became a runner, I decided on a whim to walk the Hadrian Wall Path. On the third morning I called my dad and asked him to bring my car. I reached Housesteads before getting in a taxi to the nearest train station. I keep thinking I should really go back and finish it one year.

More recently I have taken part in a couple of LDWA Challenge Events, and have a few more of their 26 mile events planned. Next year I'm thinking of maybe trying one of their 50 mile events, but the idea of walking 100 miles is still too daunting to consider.

I use walking as part of my ultra training.
Sometimes it's nice to slow down and really enjoy the view.

I have plans to do lots more walking alongside my running.

Me too. Maybe one for the O50 thread, but walking might be the new swim/bike/run for me.

40 mile walks with half mara runs would be great training for anything long and steady!

I went the opposite way from Greg, from a keen all-day walker to someone who'd rather whang out an hour or two of hard running and go home for dinner.
