Hello forum people. As a sufferer of Hallux Limitus (painful bone growth on big toe joint - similar to a bunion ewwwww) I prefer a firm sole. I've only actually discovered this recently as I threw away my last pair of Nimbus 16's (so 2014) and now have Vomero's and Pegs in my normal rotation. With this distinct lack of Nimbus 16 (very stiff sole) in the mix, I am experiencing pain. I seem to have tried everything in my local running stores and my general view is that everything I pick up is too flexible or narrow. A narrow shoe runs the bone spur, which also results in ouchness. Does anybody have a similar set of running shoes prerequisites: structural Hallux Limitus friendly, neutral gait, 8-12mm drop, cushioning? If so, what do you run in? Yours in eager anticiaption of a clone like-me... Mark |

I have bunions and discovered that Brookes do wide fitting shoes. I also saw a podiatrist for a gait analysis due to my problem feet. It was well worth the money and he made adjustments to the trainer inner to correct the imbalances (much cheaper than getting them made) and I've not looked back since. I hope you get sorted soon. |

I'm off into town today to look at some Brooks. Looking at them online the grooved sole would indicate a lot of flexibility. But they do look nice! I've also made an appointment to see the GP to get a referall for orthotics. A friend suggested a solid carbon insert could resolve...then I can where any old trainers... |

Don't hold your breath about getting anything of that ilk on the NHS and if you do it may take months to come through.

I have hallux limitus on one foot and hallux rigidus on the other :-(. I wear Brooks Adrenaline GTS's in their various iterations but be careful - sometimes (I think the 13's and 16's) the toe box can be narrower than you might need. I bought up several pairs of 15's and they're fine for me. Worth a look? I got a pair of orthotics with a hole cut out where the big toe joint rests to give me some support but also room for that joint+bony lump. They helped but I don't seem to need them now. I had to pay privately though. Good luck getting the NHS to cough up! |
