I'm completely confused by Fleecy's author riddle. I feel like I'm being quite dense.

I was looking at The Justification of Johann Gutenburg by Blake Morrison which turned up in the Fantastic Fiction list for 1984. Annoyingly, further research shows it was first published in 2000. Back to the search. |

OK, narrowed it down. I'll have to just pick one or I'll spend more time looking than reading. Lies, Inc. - Philip K. Duck Fire and Hemlock - Diana Wynne Jones The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera Alan Garner's Book of British Fairy Tales |

Love a bit of Diana Wynne Jones. Also love Milan Kunderas book but I am morally questionable: keen on Lolita too. Really of a particular time. Think I liked and read the garner book too but not as much as dwj (charmed life was one of my favourite books for a while) |

I'm with you on Ian McEwan Carp. His books start brilliantly then fall away. Black Dogs came up as a possible for me for one year, but I read that ages ago and was bored stiff by the end.

Black Dogs was the one McEwan book I gave up on. Liked or loved most of the rest. I loved The Unbearable Lightness Of Being, from the moment I saw the title, from the very first page, but then I was 18 when I read it. I think it might be one of those books that suit the young. |

I've just finished Flowers for Algernon (1966). I'm pleased I read it.
