There's clearly been a bit of police heavy-handedness: so what else is new. Just a handful of stories in the media though. I might feel differently if they were patrolling round our town centre hassling people. I'm more worried by the likelihood of local vigilantes actually - not that I'm very worried by that either, but there's a hint of it in the air. Signs telling outsiders to keep out, that sort of thing.

Menacing is probably exaggerating it a bit. Unwelcoming for sure. It is a tourist town so somewhat understandable.

I would consider it a police state if they were being selective in their "house arrests", but in fact they aren't. And in fact the "police state action" has closed down much of the economic activity of the country, which doesn't make much obvious sense to me if it is about oppressing the people. I'm no Tory voter but this doesn't feel like an attempt to overthrow individual liberties on anything other than an emergency basis. Of course that could change, but don't see it happening yet.

AIUI the persons who was recently arrested, charged, imprisoned and convicted of a non-existent crime just happened to be black. What are the odds of that, eh?

North Liverpool very quiet since measures, even more so than on a regular Sunday. My evidence? the drop in frequency of use of 2-tone horns. As for on-street police presence, I'm not there long enough to present any valiud evidence.

agree with JDA. Think vigilante's would be more of a concern. Too many people jumping to condemn others without establishing facts.... and too many angry people on social media.

I do think that the anger will start to grow as the recession caused by this bites. I think the next 12 months are extremely unpredictable; who knows where we will be this time next year? Two months ago who would have predicted this?

This isn’t a Michael Howard style Tory party, remember that. If it’s possible for anyone to not read the word Tory and think Nazi fascist
