This thread's favourite twitterer's take on Greta Thunburg: twitter.com Can you say strawman? I also liked this tweet for total whatabouttery: twitter.com All the RW commentators seem to be up in arms about a 16yr old speaking uncomfortable truths to power. And with the weight of an entire world's scientific evidence to back her up and say she is correct. Also don't feed the trolls. |

"Humanity is not going to become extinct because is of climate change" This is dangerously delusional thinking. I'd say it's pretty much nailed on. |

Lilico also compares her to a vaccine denier. So in the "mainstream" right's thinking: vaccine denial = climate change belief ? |

A 16 year old girl with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Only needed to be a Muslim as well to have them really chewing the carpet..... Still she is "Foreign" so that almost makes her a Muslim. TMW made a reasonable point which deserved a reply. Almost a discussion. Must be something in the water.... |

Extinction is sllly hyperbole. It could be a difficult time for large numbers of people in many areas though.

I'd say humanity could very easily become extinct due to climate change. I'm not saying it's happening with 10 or 100 years, but the history of the earth and "deep time" (ie geological epochs not just millennia) tell us that very few things last that long. Humanity has a flaw in that we can't survive above a wet bulb temperature of about 33c. In case you think that's high, just 2 years back there was a prolonged 30C temperature (day AND night) in the south of france for 5 days. Over 10,000 people died I believe in a similar one a few years previously - in France. |

Extinction is possible (although humans are incredibly adaptable) - the likely mechanism due to collapse of the biosphere we've adapted to. We already know that we are in the 6th mass extinction - largely caused by human activity. Certainly civilisation as we know it will definitely collapse beyond a certain amount of warming and climate change. |
