Fellrunning - quote from the Chequers meeting: "One Brexiteer source says PM offered “no concessions” at all during Chequers talks. “It was back my deal or get a softer Brexit”."

Shel and I are particularly annoyed. We had planned to go to Burton Beer festival on 29th in order to get drunk whilst the whole ghastly business took place. Now we don't have an excuse.

I have my 20 years wedding anniversary booked for the 29th. Relieved that it won't be leaving day.

The Dublin-Belfast-Dublin ultra takes place on the 29th-30th March. I was half expecting an additional cut-off mid race...

Well, my predicted coup over the weekend came to naught. What has she got over the rest of her cabinet that they continue to back her (at least publicly, for the minute)? I suspect that at least in part she has the same thing that Major had - a private, 1:1 nature which is compelling, articulate and convincing. It's not one her public persona or caricature would allow for, but without that side to her she wouldn't be in the job she is in. Of course, there are other circumstantial factors too - like the absence of a clear successor or anyone in the cabinet brave enough to put their head above the parapet and risk their own personal political future whilst they can see that hers is being shredded daily. I'm trying hard not to let the fatigue set in, fingers crossed for some excitement and movement this week. |

The coup plot was a bit like Brexit itself. Tory MPs don't like May - "so let's get rid of May!!" What do we do when we have got rid of her - "ah, ermm.. take back control and use a cardboard cutout of a unicorn as leader instead?" And how will that help anything at all - "ermmm.. it's the will of the people, democracy!!" As another MP pointed out, it wasn't the most intelligent coup plot. |

They are broadly just a bunch of cowards aren't they - across all parties. And having shot themselves in the foot with the NC vote in TM at the back of last year, there isn't even the old "stalking horse" approach available to them. When we look back, will both the restrictions due to the fixed term parliaments and the change of Tory party leadership rules look like particularly glaring causes of the current stalemate? |

I can't see any 2nd referendum occurring before brexit (there maywell be one later if it all goes wrong)
