Theresa May just needs to shout at the Irish a bit more. That should do it.

Once again, it's all just about the Conservative Party and saying the right things to avoid a split. She takes no account of the real world in terms of what can actually be agreed to by Ireland, or the EU. It is the most pitiful display of myopic politicking.

No, she has pissed off almost half her party, she knows she is toast, even in the short term. Always remember the EU have finished negotiating, so therefore so have Ireland. We either take May's deal or not, that is it really, it is so simple now it is ridiculous. She is just waiting, waiting, waiting and thinks that parliament will succumb, on the basis that she feel she has a duty to this. The law says we are leaving on the 29th. If we extend, we will still be talking about May's Deal because May won a no confidence vote in her party and in parliament, so it is still May's Deal or not 6 months down the line. There is no consensus for anything else. No Deal winning. |

Plan A was "Let's get through the week and see what turns up". Plan B is "Let's get through the day and see what turns up". |

I don't believe parliament will allow no deal and I believe our constitution is flexible enough for a mechanism to enforce this to be imposed. I may be fooling myself. OTOH there were some here (and I heard some in real life) predicting that May's deal would pass last week so I certainly have more confidence in my judgement than I do in those peoples'! There are lots of MPs who secretly agree with David Lammy but who dare not say it out loud. There are others who may not quite agree with him yet but who will come round in time. The Overton window is shifting. It's frustrating to me how slow this process is when it all seemed quite clear some time ago, but that's how people work. |

Two interesting takes on what happens next from WS and JDA, I agree with aspects of both, but I think I'm with JDA that I can see the shift happening, slowly, but it is changing. Consensus exists for stopping a no deal, and that's what I base my my faith on. By going back to her own party rather than reaching out, I think May is ensuring that Parliament at some stage will act without her, because otherwise it will be 70 days of nothing.

Another important point is that a lot of people are starting to realise that we need an extension for May's deal anyway. Once we get into that sort of territory, there are lots of opportunities to kick the can down the road indefinitely. One obstacle may be what sort of requirements the EU has for agreeing an extension.

If May continues blindly pushing on trying to get her precious deal through, without moving towards any other type of deal which may have more widespread support, is there a possibility that Parliament may at some time have no option other than to do what it takes to revoke A50?. At that point there will be only two options, the May deal which will not get support or the default 'no deal', neither of which work.
