I’m not on the grumbler or anything similar NE, I can’t stand that sort of thing!

Good start this morning for the juniors, I know we have had Para cycling and the mixed so far.

Marshal was signalling left too early and sent a rider up the support vehicle detour. I know how he did it because the support cars were too close to their rider but he was too fixated on his job and had little appreciation of how such a signal appears to a rider.
The rider has to know the route so ultimately it is the rider responsibility but still poor show.

Adds to the long list of misdirections I have seen starting with Robert Millar before he became Philippa York at the Tour back in the '80s.

I enjoyed the mixed relay TT yesterday afternoon. A good experiment, worked well I thought. Would have been nice to see the changeover done with a hand-sling instead though (probably a recipe for disaster on a TT bike!).

It was very strange watching the TT on telly yesterday, I could see the helicopter hovering outside and yet inside was this very familiar route being shown. One of the tight hairpins is right by the stile where I nip through onto Birk Crag of an evening :-)

I was coming back from swimming this morning and it was flipping hayhem, all the road closures appeared to implemented early and I had to take an enormous dogleg to get to work, managed to do it with a smile though. I did see Team GB out for an early morning ride, they were held up at the zebra crossing by Rossett school. Wonder what they made of the road surface, it's one of the worst in Harrogate and absolutely awful to ride on. Meglet will confirm this.

Would also fail given there are usually two risers finishing with three starting...

I enjoyed it as well.

No reason why you couldn't require 2nd rider to handsling any one of three, or require both the first two finishers from the first leg to each sling one rider. Otherwise the second 3 TTers could be anywhere in the country, not even on the same route, I like my relays to feel like a relay!

I agree NE, Pannal Ash Road, Green Lane and Leadhall Lane are my closest roads and are truly awful, especially when you compare them to Pennypot Lane and Otley Road!

I can’t tell you what a joy it was riding Pennypot Lane at the start of a ride on yesterday’s sportive! Someone thought I wasn’t trying as I was chatting on the way up!
On the other hand, Trapping Hill (Cote de Lofthouse) is a bitch and will split the ladies up on Saturday.

Went in to see the junior ladies TT, it was busy around the start/finish but plenty of room to see. Then went into town for lunch and walked back past all the team buses with riders warming up for the afternoon, plenty of opportunity for rider spotting if that’s your thing.

Yes, it's been quite good today to wander round wherever you want and see lots of the course/team areas - I expect for the busier races at the weekend it will be far harder to get through some of the busier stretches! Also nice to bump into Meglet ;)
