Good race, watched on vrt stream on tablet, muur and bosberg not as critical at 180k as they were at 250k in the Ronde

I caught most of it from about 80km out. It seemed to be fairly active at the front, and BMC and Lotto seemed to be trying moves from around 50km out, but although a few gaps formed they never really seemed to stick for long despite some strong riders. The suggestion was that the headwind was too strong for smaller groups to really sustain a gap any earlier

A couple of years ago the Giro used the strade into a stage finish at Montalcino. Cadel Evans won the stage but you would not have recognised him as his front was completely gey/brown mud, far worse than they look as I type
