Uran has his big guns (Rolland and Talansky) up the road though, they could be called to help or he could attempt to ride up to them.

Definitely. Though whether they end up burned up by the time Sky come steaming through with the peloton...

Uran's got where he is in the Tour this year under his own steam with no team help so far (of any significant use). Does that make his performance so far this year superior to Froome's who has benefitted from his team doing his bidding? On the road, excluding the TT, Uran would be leading by 24s, 10 of which are time bonuses and 14 the net of a 6s loss on stage 5 and the 20s gained on stage 12. Nothing to suggest so far that he has any less "legs" than Froome for the mountains, and (for him) just a shame that the TT performance of Froome looks likely to be the final nail in the coffin.

Not sure about that, Uran has been known to do a good TT, would only take one small mishap...

Did anyone watch La Course this morning? I clean forgot about it.

I was watching the text feed of La Course - it sounded quite good; I'll have to see if the full replay is on Eurosport Player or ITV Hub.

I watched, could have been different if 2nd placed woman hadn't already done lots of work on the front for a team mate who didn't have the legs. (non-spoiler version).
I like the format this year, much mire watchable than a sprint stage on the Champs

Why weren't women allowed to do the whole climb for the Izoard? And at 66km that's shorter than many sportifs. The Tour Feminin in the 1980s did many more stages and they were a lot longer and they finished at the same place as the men (surely easier from a logistical point of view?) Feels like the French race organisers have attitudes rooted in the 1950s...

I suspect the reason for the shorter stage is the same reason as why there isn't a 2 week female TdF - the sponsorship / TV money simply isn't there to fund the cost of it.

Plus by having it on the same day as the TdF stage, with the caravan up front for the TdF I suspect there'd be some La Course riders in the way (the caravan progresses a long time ahead of the cyclists). It'd be good to see a full female TdF across every stage - set the men off at 9:30 am or similar, female race start at 10:30 so there's no overlap, no additional road closures required, plenty of time for all riders to complete the course.

Larkim - perspective

I climbed Alpe d'huez 7 mins slower than the fastest ascent in the race the other year but I hadn't done however many days beforehand and 100 miles that day before I got there

Oh, of course. But that's the point about the Etape isn't it - they ride the full 165km of the stage, and even then the fastest amateurs who take part aren't as quick as the "sprinters" who come in ahead of the broom wagon who have already done 2.5 weeks of this back to back.

Impressive ride up Alpe d'Huez. Even being in the same hour as the pros would satisfy me. I've ridden up one HC climb (Joux Verte via the Lindarets side to Avoriaz) and it took me about 70 minutes compared to 36 for the fastest strava time (by Tim Wellens, the Lotto Soudal rider who refused a TUE this year which would have allowed him to continue in the TdF after having I think an allergic reaction). That sort of speed (yours) is utterly incomprehensible to me.

Indeed Larkim , my point is I couldn't match the best pro when largely fresh.
