Lol - to be honest it's a fairly accurate pastiche/parody, you won't be disappointed by him if that's the case. And despite what McG might say about the dialogue, it is kind of fun. On a very old blog I remarked on overhearing two students on a train discussing how even the children in Delillo talked like these uber-savvy and witty gurus. In fact in Zero K, 14 year old Stak does just that, he's a great character, reciting weather forecasts from across the world in between. |

I've loved both DeLillo books I've read ("White Noise" and "Underworld") and am about to read "Cosmopolis" which I seem to be one of the few people who thought the film was any good, so interested to see how book compares... |

I've only read one DeLillo, Point Omega, and really didn't know what to make of it. Perhaps I should try a re-read.

No, far from it. My problem with him is that it’s all a bit over-profound all the time. I think many regard him as *the* great American novelist.

I read Underworld but found it a struggle. It felt very American and it was hard to relate to. There was only one section of writing that clicked with me. Currently reading Day of the Dead by Nicci French. It's the eighth and last in a series and I'm curious how it's going to end. |

I am nearly done with My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises by Fredrik Bachmann (translated by Henning Koch) and have really liked it. My Mum didn't like it, I suspect because she couldn't follow it I was at our Creative Arts library earlier so looked for Book Club books. Couldn't get NA or TWCTTE but managed to get Fat Hairy Planet so that will be next. |
