No email yet from the library and I've just finished Last Testament so I'd better start my nearly-1,000-page Norwegian trilogy.

I’m almost certain I’ve read how to be both. Contrary to its “unforgettable” tag i can’t remember it ...

Though you need to read TBFT not H2BB for the Book Group. 'Need' might be a bit strong. But if you don't, the thread police might come along and ask you a few intimidating questions as to why not... |

PS - one of my pet hates is hyperbole on book covers. There But For The is described as 'Joyful, sparkling' (Herald) and 'Soaring, swooping' (Independent). WTF? Is it a rainbow? A sparrowhawk? Oh look in the sky. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's the latest Ali Smith, a-soaring and a-swooping. |

I've ordered it. It will swoop in, like a Harry Potter owl, to Roxeth Branch Library.

TBFT is in my local library so I'll have a look for it at the weekend. In other news I finished A Place Called Winter by Patrick Gale and mostly loved it. It wasn't especially ground breaking and some of the plot twists were a bit cliched but I loved the writing. I liked the episodic style and the setting of England and Canada either side of WWI was interesting. The only thing I didn't completely like was the ending which seemed a bit rushed and the parts of the book set in the narrator's present could have been expanded more. I'd recommend it and if you do read it make sure you read the afterbook bits as it adds an extra dimension. I'll definitely be looking out for more of his books. |

Daz, at the moment I'm getting a bit bogged down in names, - people's names and their relationships to one another; and place names. I went back to the beginning and made notes, which has clarified things a little.
