The best thing about my cowl cowl, especially when worn in conjunction with the apricot t-shirt, is it lets everyone I meet at other events tell me all about the runner at Cleethorpes that everyone *thinks* is the ED.

There's a parkrun in Thurso now? My train-geekery has been itching for me to have an excuse to use the Far North Line!

Problem is, I have to leave 9.30am on Friday if I'm to make it in time for parkrun.

Thurso's been going nearly two years now. Great wee run (helped by the fact that I got a 37th place instead of the 112th I would have got at "home" that week :) )

blindcider, my wife did a couple of months work in Bristol a few years ago and I've done most of your neighbours..when I went down to visit her: Little Stoke, Pomphrey Hill, Ashton Court, Chipping Sodbury, but not Eastville or Somerdale..they weren't around then. I definitely will come and do the curly wurly if I happen to find myself in the region..

flanker, cheers (i think) :) Yes Lyme Park is a lovely course..though that first hill is a nasty one..

57.5 I like train journeys. Years ago we did Motherwell - Glasgow Central -Queen St- Inverness - Kyle for not a lot with a Sainsbury’s offer.

If it did it again I would just go to Plockton though.

Plockon would be a fine choice for many reasons, though not for parkrun tourism!

Thurso is a great wee event, even if I am biased.

My first visit to where I now live was a £5 go anywhere train deal in the mid 80s. Had to be a return trip so we nominated Keith or Huntly and went north via Inverness and back to Glasgow via Aberdeen.

The new one near Bristol is on private roads. Their risk assessment says the carpark closes 10 minutes before the start (route goes through) so assuming all self contained and no traffic issues

Looked at the course again and was surprised just how much of it seems to be through the car park. Car park will have to remain closed for the duration as well until the tail marshal has gone through.

Car park, interesting. There is a place nearish me which could make an excellent parkrun venue (and has hundreds of parking spaces) but where the obvious route passes through a (different, small) car park and a short stretch of access road. A 5K race used to include it in its course. An out and back route is possible, but the paths are not that wide and there is a narrow bridge.

(Not that I want to start a parkrun! Although it is pretty close to another Fetchie who has been involved with two recent startups. I wonder if they read this thread :-p ?)

Interesting, can think of another location where goods access road would be a problem but a short closure til runners passed might solve the issue if was permitted;-) Might go have another look.

For Dvorak's excellent parkrun, shame the council has no money - they need to shift the access road right a bit and put in a pedestrian path alongside it imho.

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
