The thing is that some only see members of the group as being a 'tourist' a point that this person made quite clear. The intent was to have a record of all those visiting rather than only those wearing the insignia and the idea came from the ED rather than from the group ( of which I was a member at the time ).

That point is lost on many people within that group monsenb1.

I can't say what i really think about a lot of members of that group because i'll get in trouble again and I am sure there are people in that group who are decent but I haven't met them yet ;P

blindcider, I am one of them, and at least a few people on Fetch can vouch for decent I am (I hope) :) Just would say we are not all the same.

I'm sure you aren't and I am deliberately being a bit provocative (mainly because I know the parkrun threads get read by non-fetchies). If you are ever in the Southwest get yourself to somerdale and say "hi"

You're just about passable ;-) and have one of the best courses in the country :-)

I guess I technically I count as a tourist as I seemed to have gathered well over a 100 venues, but have never got the cowl as a) I don't like the look of it and I have loads of nice buffs, b) I'm quite happy to be left alone, and c) it seems pedantically managed and a bit cliquey. However I know a lot of very nice people who do wear one :-)

Part of the reason the reputation continues is that we are much more likely to recall occasions where we have had a strong reaction, either positive or negative, to a situation. Thus the many, many times cowl wearing tourists have visited our parkrun and been perfectly pleasant are recalled dimly, if at all, but the 2 occasions I have been given “feedback” by Uber tourists is remembered in every detail and thus the myth is perpetuated

Googled Cowl, why do you need a cowl ? Do most RDs not ask who are visitors and you put yer hand up?

I’ve just took advantage of Scotrail having a £17 between any two train stations in Scotland & bought tickets to do Thurso Parkrun😀

"You might want to drill some holes just here, here and here in the paving to put your funnel posts into";
nice criminal damage charge there!

The app is very useful, but not everyone has a suitably up-to-date smartphone, & even if they do, there are issues with it not scanning on some phones.

Going back a few pages - I know one of the guys involved in setting up Eindhoven parkrun. Unfortunately we're away at a trail race their inaugural weekend, but I shall have to get along when I'm fit enough.

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
