New Scottish inaugural record at Plean today of 300. Nearest run at Falkirk about 50 down on 227. 17 runners with over 200 appearances, another 52 on 100-199. At the other end, 52 brand-new parkrunners; 32 on their second or third runs; and 18 on their fourth or fifth.

18 times under 21 minutes, 15 over 40; and a median time of 29:20.

Agreed, I don't think it can be policed and that route isn't going to be fruitful. Some other changes in approach need to be considered, but I don't know what they are.

One solution is to put the event on a small Shetland Isle on Jan 21st!

Yes (going back a couple of pages), I make Colney Lane and Norwich approximately 1.32 km apart at their closest points. Brighton & Hove and Preston Park were previously the closest pair I know of, at 1.39 km, but I haven't exhaustively checked elsewhere.

If you just take the official coordinates from the event map and calculate from that, the closest pairs are:

1.683 km - Brighton & Hove and Preston Park
1.697 km - Old Deer Park and Richmond Park
1.824 km - Dulwich and Peckham Rye
1.862 km - Sale Water and Stretford
1.909 km - Darndale and Father Collins
1.983 km - Alberts Farm and Westbury
2.030 km - Broadbeach Waters and Surfers Paradise
2.061 km - Colney Lane and Norwich
2.065 km - Brockwell and Dulwich
2.127 km - Brighton & Hove and Hove Promenade

337 at Thornbury, much more than we expected! The really cool thing (i think) is that of those 108 were brand new to parkrun! We expect numbers to drop in the next few weeks and are very grateful Eastville took the bigger numbers!

I'm not sure how you can stop people conng to an inaugural, whoare only there for that reason... Seems they just get bigger and bigger!

Eastville was always going to be big because of the central city location and paucity of parkruns in the city...could look at opening them in "clusters" perhaps? i.e. two to three open near each other on the same weekend.

On the long term list you could do:
Guildford
Godalming
Dorking

Brooklands/Weybridge
Sunbury

It does mean you have to "hold" some events while waiting for others, but I think it is good idea moving forward.

The current system, whereby there are a maximum of two inaugural events per week, gives the inaugural tourist the opportunity to attend an inaugural every week of the year. One reasonably dramatic solution would be to have inaugurals held on 6 to 12 allocated weeks per year. Whilst this would mean many more than two new events taking place in those weeks - and I am completely ignorant of the administration challenges that may pose for HQ and the regional ambassadors - it would drastically reduce options for the inaugural tourist and would presumably balance our their attendance between all the new events on each week allocated as such. I don't think this would solve the problem, and it may cause others, but it could go some way to alleviating it.

Good idea Grid. Or people could just try not to go to inaugurals unless it's within a short distance (though clearly that would upset most on here!)

I just dont get why some people feel they must attend inaugurals? Surely it runs contrary to the whole premise of parkrun in it aims to build community. Also if you're at an inaugural every week you are taking without ever giving anything back as presumably you will not be volunteer g?

So there were over 600 at Eastville and over 330 at Thornbury for their first week. Ashton Court was down about 80 odd, and Sodding Chipbury about 40.

That's over 900 new runners in that area? Seems a lot of latent demand in Bristol/ South Glos

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
