Truth,Postie. The ending was fine in itself and where the major characters finished up worked for their stories but it would have been more effective and affecting if we’d been able to see more of their journey to those end points. I don’t think the last season compares well to earlier seasons but the earlier seasons were head and shoulders the best tv ever, whereas this was some of the better tv this year.

Having absorbed the whole final season now, Bran's (or the Three Eyed Raven's) role in all of this must be scrutinized. Based on what he said when he was nominated as king "Why do you think I've come here" or something similar, he always knew it was going to get to that point. Was that his plan all along, hang around long enough for nearly everyone to kill themselves and then step over their corpses (metaphorically speaking) to gain power?

Or he knew it was inevitable no matter what he did, that those who died were doomed regardless of any attempt to save them, but that trying may have changed things enough to allow the Night King victory?

I guess there are questions around Bran’s power that need a longer explanation, hopefully in the books. Can he see the future? Or different versions of it? How certain is it?

IF the books ever get finished, I'll be fascinated to see how GRRM goes about Bran's transformation into the Three Eyed Raven and how much that will open up our knowledge of proceedings.

Now I've thought more about it, you have 3 Starks effectively governing all of Westeros and a 4th off doing her thing. Not a bad result for the family.

I agree, will the books answer whether Bran is actually a power hungry madman, or has he manipulated the situation so that he's engineered giving over the power to Tyrion - when Tyrion said who would be the best king at the start of his weird King with a story speech, he said no-one would choose the imp. Did Bran know this and give Tyrion the kingdom by proxy knowing it would be the best for the kingdom?

Tyrion is effectively the ruler as the Hand, agreed.

A couple of times this series Tyrion has spent time talking to Bran ‘tell me your story’, though we don’t know what they discussed. Whether it was Bran explaining how things would pan out, or just a deep discussion about things that have already happened.

That would explain Tyrion's dodgy decision making in the last season!
