2.5.3 Floodlights At matches where the home authority has confirmed prior to the commencement of the competition that floodlights are available for all days of the match in question, if in the opinion of the Umpires, natural light has deteriorated to an unsuitable level, they shall authorise the home authority to turn on the floodlights so that the match can continue in acceptable conditions. Floodlights must be made available for as many full matches as possible. If any planned use is not required, it must be taken forward to the next and subsequent match. In Day/Night matches, the floodlights shall be turned on at the tea interval or at 7.00pm, whichever is the earlier. |

In other words, the floodlights can only be used if the light becomes unplayable. If the light wasn’t playable in the first place without them then the game can’t start. It’s a daft rule but there it is. |

Yep -daft rule - a little like you can carry on in drizzle but can't start in drizzle - that one winds me up at club games.

Yep - same rule in essence. It’s certainly no brighter than it was at 10:30 and there are spots of rain in the air again. Losing the whole day is looking quite possible.
