While I agree that they can't all play ATM, that's only because none of them can bat in the top three. If you had three good keepers in the side who averaged 60 with the bat (in a position that the team need then), then there's no issue.

The issue shouldn't be whether they can keep wicket, it's whether they're the best batting option.

I agree with SPR. I think Bairstow (if he sorts his head) can play quite happily as a specialist batsman. If decision then Foakes v Buttler, then not sure who wins.

Bairstow made his test debut in 2012 has played 63 tests, 54 ODIs and 174 fits class games. He has an average of 36 or so in tests and a first class average of 44.

His game is made, he is the finished article as far as his level of talent/application goes, head is as sorted as it is going to get.

Wicketkeeper batsman, number 7. Suits him fine.

First class average of 45 is pretty decent...

Bairstow has regressed over the last couple of years with an average of 31 in 25 matches and 44 innings. In the two years before that he averaged 50 in 24 matches and 41 innings.

I know the analysts have said that his limited overs style has affected his test form.

First class cricket is not very good.

They and I mean all the England batsmen can't help but have a go it is their mentality in all games. Sometimes they look shit sometimes like last summer it works and looks great.

If he as gone backwards do not move him up the order.

First class cricket may not be very good but if you compare him to Jennings and Stoneman then TBH, I'm not sure how they even got in... and Rory Burns should have had an opportunity a long time ago.

Mentality is on Root and the rest of the management.

Yeah, not moving him up is fair enough, but I think he needs to know more is expected of him, and if he doesn't perform, then Foakes should be straight in. Yes, Foakes isn't as attacking, but England have enough players that want to attack.

Remember Bairstow actually came back as a specialist batsman and played well as one. At the time it was his only route back so he accepted it I guess. Maybe giving him the gloves back then was a mistake.

Although TBF he got the gloves back pretty early in his comeback and still batted well so that's not the reason for the drop in form.

That's why I have a problem with Root as captain, he is ok have a go. He was in a press conference the other days saying "I can't bat for the others", no you can't but you can send them out with the right attitude.

If the captain's attitude is fuck you lot I am batting at 4 and doing what suits me best, it is no wonder it goes wrong.

Has Root ever said in detail why he wants to bat at four? It's obvious from an team point of view, with the abundance of middle order batsmen that him at three would work best for the team.

Maybe they should just send Anderson in at three, won't last long (no change there then!), but Root would still be at four...
