The event will get better every year. I ran last year and hated it. The organisers got it wrong big time. But they listened to all the feedback and put steps in place to correct everything. I for one will be back next year and no doubt it will be even better. On the whole well done Manchester.

We're all round to yours next year, aren't we :)Bob? I've heard a lot of positive stuff about this race from my friends who did it. If I don't get my GFA time in June then I will definitely be putting in for this one next year... |

Must admit I thought the course would have been better the other way round, but yes road closures probably would be more difficult. Having been involved in some race organising this year it's a real eye opener, road closures and traffic management in particular are not easy to put in place! Glad to hear the children's choir enjoyed it - they made my day - definately get my vote for best entertainment!

To be honest finding the correct start area wasn't a major issue was it? I followed everyone else arrived where lots of people were lining up, went for an impromptu pee at the start line toilets (very impressed these were here) then slotted into my start area. The pacers with big flags on their backs were a dead giveaway as to where I wanted to be and there were no metal barriers stopping you just jumping in where you need to go (unlike the Bupa 10K). I found the race pretty seamless to be honest with you, I was through the finish line, collected my medal (no, it was placed around my neck - nice touch), goody bag, water bottle, energy bar from the long production line and out of the finish area all within a couple of minutes. Straight to baggage collection where THREE Cadets looked for my bag and got it back to me within 2 minutes. I was stood drinking my For Goodness Shake within 10 minutes of the race finishing then promptly found my friend the minute she came through the finishing funnel shortly after 4hrs. Can't complain at any of it. We were back in the car when another friend text me to say she was stood under the clock, had I gone through? We were already out of the car park (again seamless) and on the way home.

Agreed. The finishing area really was flawless. Especially compared to my last big city marathon (Edinburgh). I'd finished just a tad inside 3.53 (3.55 on the big clock). I'd been interviewed, processed, hugged by a friend, medalled-up, watered, t-shirted and flapjacked and had gone out to where I'd agreed to meet my supporters (by the statue of 3 footballers) while they were still calling that people were finishing inside 4 hours. In comparison Edinburgh was a nausea-inducing crush were I just gave up trying to get through the finish area and just sat on a kerb in sheer despondancy. Wow, to think back, both the run and the marathons themselves were completely different experiences! |

oh yes the hillsborough waiting to happen at Edinburgh we shall see this year Agree with you all about the excellent finish facilities |

I enjoyed this much more this year than last year where I was a whisker away from hypothermia and had my jumper nicked out of my bag. The organisers have definitely listened to everyone and I thought the race village was excellent, and seemed much better organised overall. My finish time was given as 2hrs faster than I was, so I felt I should inform them (it would have been fantastic to finish in 3:23:xx, but I have no chance of that....), and they changed it twice because that 3:23 kept wanting to be in my name, but it belongs to someone with the same surname, so they should have it - and I think DO have it now! :D I'll do it again next year hopefully. :D |
