We took Wanda for a walk in the woods last night and I would estimate that she was only 'fully focussed on the handler' for about the last ten minutes back to the car once she had tired herself out trying to chase squirrels (she was on a fairly short lead at all times) and even though we were in the shade of the woods she was probably still quite warm. But I too think they need time on a walk to do 'dog stuff' so when I am doing the bulk of the walking I try to do a 'structured walk' on our short walk and a 'dog stuff with occasional structure' on the longer one. However when newly signed up fetchie BaronBR walks her - there may be different rules ;-)

I wouldn't hold your breath for much actual activity from BaronBR on the site just yet.... although he did walk into town yesterday wearing the Fetch cap that I bought him for his birthday. I am not even sure if the Garmin that I bought him *some* years ago for his birthday has ever been connected to a computer either but perhaps this is the incentive he needs to do so....

Well, welcome to Baron, whenever he actually joins us :-)

Lottie is having her post-lunch nap so I can have a bit of quiet time Fetching :-) I can say with some confidence that when she no longer has Flossie to play with / pester she will miss her a great deal. Flossie, I suspect, will just be glad of the peace and quiet! (Following a week with us here, both dogs go to my sister while we're away for 10 days.)

Here's one way to cope with the heatwave:

Ernie is pretty ball obsessed. We have had to banish them from the house as he constantly harasses us to play. If he gets a hint there is a ball with us on walks he won't leave us alone. On the plus side he is totally disinterested in people or dogs if there is a ball around - this reduces the likelihood of him running off.

Lottie looks gorgeous but why on earth did they get a puppy if they aren't going to be around for the first few weeks.

HP you may well ask...

I suppose, in fairness, they'd booked this Spanish trip a while back, before they'd found a puppy. However, given this is about their zillionth holiday in the last 12 months, and it involved cheap Ryanair flights and a stay in a mates-rates villa, I think I would have cancelled.

There was a funny little incident this afternoon. Lottie was persistently jumping at me and I was repeatedly saying No. Then Flossie gave a sort of gruff little bark - No! in Labrador I assume - and Lottie stopped immediately :-)

I think Rory has probably been 'fully focussed on the handler' while he's outside for a total of about 5 minutes in the 6 weeks he's been here. The rest of the time he just regards me as an annoying weight he has to drag around while he's busy chasing birds.

LD I'd be worried that little Lottie will bond with you (and Flossie). It will be interesting when they get back.

QP told me today that Ernie sits on the windowsill waiting for me all day when I go to work :( I feel guilty.

Mazlin I love that description. I totally agree with others re: time to be a dog. Ernie has certain parts of our regular walks where he is fully focused on me but there are so many smells, and other dogs, and people, and oh birds and best of all next doors cat....
