Stander
I'm ok. It's just at work we are throwing together what help we can (it's what the point of our place actually is), and some of what we are doing just reminding me of what issues I had to deal with in 2012.

At the moment what help I am involved in sorting is being done remotely (I haven't seen the dad for a few weeks). I expect things might be a little more difficult when I actually catch up with him face to face.

But I'm happy to do so, even if it is bringing back things. It's repaying the help I got when I needed it in similar circumstances.

The world would be a much nicer place if we all did that a bit more often.

((Stander)) It's good to know that poor man will have informed and compassionate help.

Hugs Stander. A positive thing is that you will know what was useful, what wasn't and anything else that you could have done with.

Stander
For reasons I'm not going to explain now (might have some news next week), I have spent the last couple of hours re-reading this thread from page 1.

I won't lie. I've been a blubbering mess of tears through much of it as I recall those dark days.

But I've also been reminded of the support from this fantastic little community here that we call Fetchland. And of the enormous generosity of you guys for sponsoring me when I ran the 2012 London marathon in memory of Siobhain.

God forbid, that I find myself in a similar situation again, but would I repeat this thread again? Probably not. Was I glad that I did it at the time? Absolutely. And I still think that today.

I thank again from the bottom of my heart, each and every single one of you for your messages of support on this thread.

In other news, I've been wondering how to broach the topic of Siobhain's grave with my son. These things are difficult enough with young children at the best of times, but with him being autistic as well, these things sometimes need careful thought and/or planning.

But he resolved the problem for us. We were driving past a churchyard a week recently and he started talking about how the gravestones were all there for dead people. It was the perfect time to discuss with him his mothers grave and whether he would like to see it.

We went on Sunday with some flowers.

Oh yeah, and one question that re-reading this thread reminded me of.

Just what the fuck does one have to do around these here parts to actually win the bloody Member of the Month vote?!!??!!

No idea Stander, I've only been nominated once in 8 years !

Think you've done the right thing with the grave. Kids are more resilient than we think and I think it's better to tell them sooner rather than later. Good luck.

I tried really hard with my sob story blogs Stander to win Member of the Month, only got nominated....

I find it helps to laugh now and again. You sent me really kind words when I was struggling with my husband's death and I agree this lovely community of Fetchland is amazingly kind.

Gravestone lovely and I am sure your son will get it in his own way. I love the bit where he gave you the opportunity to speak about it, that's why I love working with kids, they just get us...

All the best
