Bees!

Also sparkly socks! There's clearly some cosmic connection between sparkly socks and hospitals.

I wore the pair of sparkly socks I made myself when I went in for surgery the other week. The OR staff were very impressed, and my toes were super cosy.

Its been a while since I last posted on here, and again its not knitting or crochet!

I've owed a Dremel for a few years and I have always wanted to try glass engraving. My wife loves orchids and it was our wedding anniversary so I made her this...

I bought the small flexible shaft extension fitting and some diamond burrs (Hobbycraft) and I had some glass (broken piece from the greenhouse). It was a shame the bottom right corner broke off when cutting the glass but this was only the second time cutting glass. The engraving went well, just kept wiping the glass with a damp cloth to remove debris and keep the burrs cool. The picture was found online, printed and taped to the rear of the glass as a pattern to follow. Wife loved it :-) I have promised to redo the pic as she has found a spare frame with glass so she can display it properly.

The wife bought me the Aldi Woodburning set (https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-woodburning-set/p/083182205481500) for my anniversary prezzy. I knew about this so I planned some pics to try. Have only done the one so far...

Pic found online and traced onto the wood. The new "pen" worked well. There are a few blobs where I dug into the wood more than I would like, but I am very happy with the result. My daughter LOVES it. She has been carrying it around all evening and this morning! My son now wants a pic also. Planned this already, Darth Maul as he is a Star Wars fan.
The pen is a basic model with no temperature control so it was either very hot or off. If I enjoy doing more of these I would need to invest in one that can be cooler as I can already say that shading would be difficult. Will keep on trying though. One issue I did have is that the handle of the pen did get very hot. Not so bad for me (I use furnaces at work and get used to the heat) but I can see that others would have to switch off and allow it to cool (or wear leather (or similar) gloves).

Lovely HB. At the rate you work you’ll be fine.

I need to make one for Teen 2, I have two years but ought to start planning soon as it may take a while! Hoping she wants something simpler than Teen 1’s, which I love, but was a real labour of love to design and make. Not sure I have the patience for another.
